# Contemporary Fruit Containers La Mamba's Omelette-Ed Collection Look Like Abstract Sculptures By Meghan Young | Published 2011-10-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/omelette-ed-collection References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/omelette-ed-by-la-mamba/) & [lamamba.es](http://www.lamamba.es/) The home is no longer a place for simple necessities, as the Omelette-Ed Collection attests to. Beds have become more than basic mattresses, kitchens more than areas to cook food. The fruit bowl in the Omelette-Ed Collection shows that designers, decorators and homeowners alike are filling their living spaces with items that serve more than a practical purpose, but an artistic one as well. Created by La Mamba, the Omelette-Ed Collection is completely contemporary. In fact, the fruit bowl just mentioned looks more like an [abstract sculpture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cromatica) than a container to hold produce. Likewise, the planter that is also in the collection is just as dubious-looking. Granted, it does have a pretty plant inside that gives it away. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.2/10 - Popularity: 16% | Activity: 13% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 10% men, 90% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Artistic Home Accessories:** The trend of filling living spaces with items that serve an artistic purpose opens up opportunities for designing unique and attractive products for home decor companies. - **Sculptural Containers:** The use of sculptural containers for practical purposes demonstrates the potential for designing everyday objects that double as works of art. - **Functional Art:** The popularity of functional art pieces such as the Omelette-Ed Collection fruit bowl present unique opportunities for artists and designers to create functional, yet visually appealing products. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Home Decor:** The trend of using artistic home accessories opens up new design opportunities for home decor companies to create products that serve both practical and aesthetic purposes. - **Product Design:** The use of sculptural containers for practical purposes presents potential opportunities for product designers to innovate new, multi-functional product formats. - **Art:** The emergence of functional art pieces provides a unique opportunity for artists to express their creativity in a practical and functional way. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Fruit-Inspired Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fruitinspired-furniture-collection.md) - [Geometrical Head-Shaped Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vondom-adan-collection.md) - [Designer Danish Housewares](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stackable-vessels.md) - [Fruit-Inspired Design Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soft-grounds.md) - [Dynamic Colored Glass Bowls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tip-top-glass.md) - [Sophisticated Upcycled Home Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/basket-sculptures.md) - [Delicate Basket Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/basket-sculpture.md) - [Mushroom-Based Fruit Bowls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mycoworks-fruit-bowl.md) - [Revived Mid-Century Serveware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tortugaware.md)
