# Abstract Tri-Symmetric Stools The Olly Stool by Junction Fifteen is Modern and Playful By Meghan Young | Published 2013-09-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/olly-stool References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2013/09/21/olly-stool-by-junction-fifteen/) & [junctionfifteen](http://junctionfifteen.com/) The Olly Stool is a modernized version of the traditional [tri-symmetric design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nick-beens). In place of the standard straight legs, the Olly Stool boasts an [abstract steel frame](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cling-stool) that is at once playful and artistic. As though it were repurposed from re-finished pipes, the design has an industrial feel that many will appreciate. It is a style that doesn't appear to be dying down any time soon. Designed by Junction Fifteen, a studio based in the United Kingdom, the Olly Stool is topped with a seat made out of either solid European Oak or American Walnut stool top. Although already a treat for the eyes, one of the more fun details lies in the three bowling ball style finger holes that make lifting and positioning a cinch. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.4/10 - Popularity: 30% | Activity: 5% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Abstract Furniture:** There is an opportunity to create more modern versions of traditional furniture designs, using imaginative and abstract frames. - **Industrial Decor:** The Olly Stool showcases how industrial materials such as steel and pipes can be transformed into stylish, modern pieces for home and office spaces. - **Functional Aesthetics:** Modern furniture design can incorporate playfulness and functionality, as seen with the Olly Stool's finger holes for easy lifting and positioning. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Design:** Furniture designers can take inspiration from the Olly Stool and create new, modern versions of traditional furniture designs using imaginative structures and materials. - **Home Decor:** Industrial decor can be pursued as a new home decor trend, utilizing unconventional materials such as steel and pipes in a functional, stylish manner. - **Office Design:** Functional and playful furniture designs like the Olly Stool can revolutionize office spaces, allowing for greater comfort and convenience for employees. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Monochromatic Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monochromatic-stool.md) - [Interlocking Wooden Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-tie-stool.md) - [Expressive Triple-Layer Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/3ply-assemble-stool.md) - [Bright Colorful Structural Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fels.md) - [Alien-Inspired Metal Stool Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metal-stool-1.md) - [Colorful Dual-Purpose Stool Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/s1-stool.md) - [Olive Pit-Constructed Kids Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nontalo.md) - [Elevated Sleek Versatile Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sos-stool.md) - [Modernist Modern Stool Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/utzon-stool.md)
