The team worked on giving the home more character to also open up the interiors which were dark and disconnected before this. The house now has an expanded ground floor with a large skylight and window seat. Oliver Leech, founder of the studio speaks about the design focus of the project to [Dezeen](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/datum-house), stating "Natural light is the most important theme and design tool that we think about when designing our houses as a studio. Here we used the light to draw you into the house through the darker hallway and towards a huge fixed skylight in the centre of the house. We saw this central skylight as the central anchor to the new house, surrounded by all the key spaces, Image Credit: Jim Stephenson ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.3/10 - Popularity: 11% | Activity: 6% | Freshness: 21% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Skylight Utilization in Home Extensions:** Incorporating skylights into home extensions can optimize natural light and enhance the overall design aesthetic. - **Enhancing Interior Spaces with Natural Light:** Prioritizing natural light in home renovations can transform previously dark and disconnected interiors into inviting and illuminated living spaces. - **Wildflower Meadow Roofs for Eco-friendly Designs:** Incorporating wildflower meadow roofs in architectural projects can add a touch of sustainability and natural beauty to the overall design. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture:** The architecture industry can leverage skylight utilization and prioritizing natural light in home renovations to create innovative and visually striking designs. - **Home Renovation:** The home renovation industry can incorporate skylights and prioritize natural light to enhance interior spaces, creating modern and inviting living environments. - **Environmental Design:** The environmental design industry can explore the use of wildflower meadow roofs as a sustainable and visually appealing design element in various architectural projects. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Wall-to-Wall Skylight Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/datum-house.md) - [Natural Light-Centric Timber Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/huron-house.md) - [Terraced Naturally Lit Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oasis-home.md) - [Flexible Family Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-simple-addition.md) - [London Home Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peekablue.md) - [Wildflower-Topped Extension Renovations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hoj-house.md) - [Italian-Informed Loft Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lewisham-loggias.md) - [Vibrant London Home Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/park-house.md) - [Bright Family Renovation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cobble-hill-townhouse.md)
