Using oil paint and a canvas, these paintings catch a level of grittiness and attention to detail that makes them look more like high definition photographs than oil portraits. With a dedication to precision these painted images closely depict not only the tattoos present on each individual, but also a closer examination of each person who uses their own body as their own personal canvas. Chapman describes his process as surveying people's relationships with their own self-image in the context of the modern media landscape, and framing it within visual tropes like social networking, Photoshop and cinematic composition. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.4/10 - Popularity: 87% | Activity: 66% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Hyper-realistic Oil Portraits:** Creating hyper-realistic oil portraits offers disruptive innovation opportunities in the art world by combining traditional painting techniques with a digital-like level of precision. - **Capturing Unique Tattoo Artwork:** The focus on capturing individuals and their tattoo artwork in oil portraits presents disruptive innovation opportunities for artists to explore the intersection of body art and traditional portraiture. - **Exploring Self-image in the Modern Media Landscape:** The examination of people's relationships with their own self-image in the context of social networking, Photoshop, and cinematic composition opens up disruptive innovation opportunities in the fields of psychology and visual storytelling. ### Where This Applies - **Art:** The hyper-realistic oil portraits and exploration of unique tattoo artwork create disruptive innovation opportunities for artists, galleries, and art collectors. - **Body Art:** The portrayal of individuals and their tattoo artwork in oil paintings presents disruptive innovation opportunities for tattooists, tattoo enthusiasts, and the body art industry as a whole. - **Media and Advertising:** The analysis of self-image within the modern media landscape offers disruptive innovation opportunities for brands, advertisers, and visual storytellers to explore the impact of digital manipulation and perception on individuals. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Stunning Origami Portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-portaits.md) - [Oil Painting-Inspired Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/antonio-santn.md) - [Stylized Portrait Generators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/face-to-all.md) - [Travel-Inspired Canvas Paintings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-passport-series.md) - [AI Tattoo Visualizers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ink-studio-ai.md) - [Online Tattoo Art Marketplaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blackdot.md) - [AI Tattoo Generators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tattoo-canvas.md) - [Generative Art Tattoo Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blackdot-1.md) - [AI Tattoo Generators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tattoo-ai-design.md)
