# Puzzle-Inspired Staircases This Office Staircase Separates the Space and Boasts Useful Features By Riley von Niessen | Published 2016-05-30 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/office-staircase References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2016/05/21/studio-farris-architects-barn-conversion-office-interior-design-jenga-staircase-west-flanders-belgium/) & [studiofarris](http://www.studiofarris.com/) Studio Faris designed an office staircase that divides a [repurposed barn](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/office-inainn-barn) in Belgium into work spaces, meeting places and bookshelves. The staircase is at the focus of the gray interior of the barn, with its large timber blocks jutting out dramatically. The staircase looks like a wooden sculpture but also provides multiple functional uses. As the renovated barn does not feature smaller rooms and floors, the staircase enables the space to be transformed into separate areas that give it a more cozy look and grants privacy. The timber beams are placed in a way that allows the office staircase to contain copious nooks for reading material and other storage. As Dezeen points out, its structure is similar to that of a [giant game of Jenga](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/puzzle-shelf). Studio Faris found the staircase deign useful in giving the barn an additional floor without destroying its open concept design, as well as providing the space with a highly original look. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 57% | Activity: 13% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Puzzle-inspired Staircases:** Incorporating puzzle-inspired elements into staircase design presents opportunities for creating unique and multifunctional spaces. - **Repurposed Buildings:** Using repurposed buildings as office spaces offers opportunities to create innovative designs that maximize functionality and aesthetic appeal. - **Multi-purpose Furniture:** Designing furniture with integrated storage solutions allows for efficient use of space in small or open-concept office environments. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture and Interior Design:** Architects and interior designers can explore puzzle-inspired staircase designs to create visually appealing and functional spaces. - **Real Estate:** Real estate developers can consider repurposing existing buildings to cater to the growing demand for unique and creative office spaces. - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers can innovate by creating multi-purpose furniture that provides storage solutions, particularly for small or open-concept office environments. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Bold Architectural Renovations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flat-iron-house.md) - [Timbered Passage Stair Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-annex.md) - [Sculptural Townhome Staircases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atelier-pierre-thibault-1.md) - [Reimagined Traditional Library Ladders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/step-by-step-ladder.md) - [Dynamic Bookend Lighting Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stair-table.md) - [Concrete Spiral Staircase Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cadenza.md) - [Remodelled Staircase-Centric Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cobalt-coach-house.md) - [Farm-Inspired Office Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/black-barn-1.md) - [Jigsaw Puzzle-Inspired Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/puzzle-shelf.md)
