# Fear-Inspired Miniature Golfing Off Courses Features 18 Phobia-Themed Holes By Michael Hines | Published 2011-05-15 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/off-course References: [imprint.printmag](http://imprint.printmag.com/daily-heller/mini-golf-for-phobia-fixers/) Graduate students at the New York City School of Visual Arts have created what is perhaps the most original golf course ever in Off Course, an 18-hole [mini golf course](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-fantastic-four-first-steps) inspired by phobias. Each hole was designed by a student and is themed around a different phobia. Most of these holes feature phobias I have never heard of before, such as vidigamephobia ([fear of video games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eyes-never-wake)) and barophobia (the fear of reversed gravity). Each hole has a creative and quirky design, which makes me really, really want to play through the entire course. Of course I can't, but you can if you visit the school during the hours that the exhibition is on. The graduating class of 2012 is going to have a hard time topping Off Course. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.0/10 - Popularity: 50% | Activity: 31% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Themed Mini Golfing:** Designing miniature golf courses around a theme could offer a unique and entertaining experience for golf lovers. - **Health-related Themed Courses:** Creating courses themed after physical or mental health conditions could raise awareness and educate while providing entertainment. - **Experimental Entertainment:** Developing experimental and unique forms of entertainment that deviate from traditional experiences could attract interest and attention. ### Where This Applies - **Golf:** Golf courses can explore incorporating these creative themes to offer unique experiences for their customers. - **Healthcare:** Hospitals or clinics can use themed mini golf courses to help educate patients and visitors about various health conditions. - **Entertainment:** Theme parks or other entertainment companies could consider incorporating themed mini golf courses as a new and unique form of attraction. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Cozy Golfing Game Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cozy-golf.md) - [Spooky Beer Challenges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/empty-beer-glass.md) - [Exclusivity-Challenging Golf Events](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/golf-town.md) - [Interactive Golf Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hackers-golf.md) - [Sport-Themed Game Maps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/topgolf.md) - [Golf-Inspired Textural Club Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/muni-indoor-golf-club.md) - [Gamified Golfing Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/golf2earn-platform.md) - [Phobia-Fighting VR Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ovrcome.md) - [Horror Animated Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scope-creep.md)
