# Earth-Friendly Desert Toys The Oasis Electric Dune is an Eco-Friendly Way to Play By Michael Hines | Published 2011-03-30 | Autos Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oasis-electric-dune-buggy References: [ecofriend](http://www.ecofriend.com/entry/oasis-electric-vehicle-for-a-clean-cruise-over-the-dunes/) & [coroflot](http://www.coroflot.com/skorthuis) The desert would be a lot quieter and cleaner if everyone was riding around in the [Oasis](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/game-controller-charger) electric dune buggy. Designer Shane Korthuis has conceptualized an [eco-friendly dune buggy](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rivian-california-dune) with a 28-inch ground clearance that runs solely off of electricity. I grew up in a town filled with desert rats, and I can assure you that everything they brought to the desert was powered either by gas, Coors Light or a combination of both. The Oasis electric dune buggy would help clean up the air of the desert and reduce [noise pollution](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dust-hightail-electric-dirt-bike), a seemingly insignificant form of pollution that is actually very harmful to animals. I doubt I'll be getting out to the desert anytime soon, but hopefully when I do make it out, I'll see more than a few of Shane Korthuis' eco-buggies tearing up and down the dunes. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.0/10 - Popularity: 5% | Activity: 16% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Autos](https://www.trendhunter.com/autos) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Electric Off-road Vehicles:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Designing and manufacturing more eco-friendly and electric-powered off-road vehicles for recreational and commercial use in desert and off-road environments. - **Sustainable Transportation:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Developing innovative and sustainable transportation options to reduce air and noise pollution in natural environments such as deserts and other off-road areas. - **Environmental Awareness:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Promoting and advocating for greater environmental awareness and conscious consumer choices in the recreational and leisure industry, especially in relation to desert and off-road activities. ### Who This Affects Most - **Automotive:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporating electric and eco-friendly technologies into the design and manufacturing processes of off-road vehicles, specifically targeting desert and off-road enthusiasts. - **Adventure Tourism:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Creating eco-friendly and sustainable tourism experiences and services that cater to desert and off-road adventure seekers, with a focus on minimizing environmental impact and promoting responsible travel. - **Outdoor Recreation:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Developing and marketing a range of eco-friendly and sustainable outdoor recreational products and services, including desert-specific toys and equipment that align with principles of environmental conservation and sustainability. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Rugged Off-Road Concept Vehicles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jeep-dune.md) - [Retro Electric Buggies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/meyers-manx-ev.md) - [Electric Exoskeleton Off-Road Vehicles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/offroad-electric-vehicle.md) - [Petite Solar-Powered EVs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solarpowered-ev.md) - [Electric Hot Rod Vehicles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electric-hot-rod.md) - [Sustainable EV Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/little-tikes-cozy-coupe.md) - [Custom-Modified Electric Off-Grid Campers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/redsands-hilux.md) - [Road-Ready Dune Buggy Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fordzilla-hypervan.md) - [Ruggedized Electric UTVs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electric-utv.md)
