# City Signs as Art NYC Walk - Dont Walk chair By Bianca | Published 2008-04-15 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nyc-walk-dont-walk-chair References: [gadgettastic](http://www.gadgettastic.com/2008/04/15/walk-dont-walk-new-york-chair/) New York City has such a charm, it's hard to leave behind. The good news it that you don't have to resist taking a piece of the city with you! "A remote control is included to turn them on and off. The legs are made from reconfigured, customized [steel street sign brackets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dream-view-chair), with galvanized, heavy duty self-leveling feet," Gadgettastic says. "The Walk - Dont Walk chairs are each built by hand and still contain all the scuffs and stains of living in New York for a number of years. If the old beat up signs do not take your fancy then you can opt to go for a squeaky clean look which will see the chair completely resprayed. The seating surfaces are made from one inch thick [polished resin glass](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atypical-chair) which sits on a felt suspension." While stealing a sign from the Big [Apple](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apple-foldable-iphone) would be much easier on the wallet than shelling out $3,700 for the The Walk - Dont Walk chair, it would be well worth it to spend the money. Trust me, the NYPD is not a system you want to mess with! Besides, they're legit pieces from NYC streets. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.9/10 - Popularity: 26% | Activity: 53% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Upcycled Furniture:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation: Create unique furniture pieces by repurposing discarded materials like street signs and brackets. - **Urban-inspired Design:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation: Incorporate elements of city streets and signage into various design products to capture the urban aesthetic. - **Customizable Home Decor:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation: Offer personalized options for furniture and home decor to cater to individual preferences and tastes. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation: Embrace sustainable practices and materials to create unique and eco-friendly furniture pieces. - **Home Decor Retail:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation: Curate collections that reflect urban-inspired design trends to cater to customers looking for unique and trendy home decor items. - **Interior Design Services:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation: Incorporate upcycled and customizable pieces into interior design projects to create innovative and personalized spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Waste-Incorporated Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knoll-chairs.md) - [Essay-Integrated Dynamic Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pax-new-yorkea.md) - [NYC-Inspired Outdoor Dining Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/madison-chair.md) - [Traffic Light-Inspired Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/traffic-light-bench.md) - [NYC-Inspired Steel Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/city-block.md) - [Swivelling Marbled Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/landmark-project.md) - [Recycled Dynamic Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bultan-chair.md) - [Modern Design-Exploring Art Objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pratone-chair.md) - [Recycled Seating Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atlanta-airport-chairs.md)
