New York City is home to a whole lot of people, and as such it's home to a whole lot of dogs that have made it onto the NYC dog name database. The official municipal government site is a searchable database that allows anyone online to look up any of the [registered dog names](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/petdiary) across the five boroughs.

The NYC dog name database is impressively interactive and nimble. Though there are thousands of dogs in the database, the site almost immediately brings up a name and the amount of times that name has been registered when a user searches. They can also hover their mouse over the bubbles in the graph to see information.

The purpose behind the database is to encourage those living in NYC to [register their pets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/can-dogs-eat-this) with the local authorities.
