# Sleek Nut Crackers The Nut Hammer is a Simpler Way to Crack Your Nuts By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-09-17 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nut-hammer References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2014/09/16/roger-arquer-nut-hammer-nutcracker-menu/) & [rogerarquer](http://www.rogerarquer.com/) London-based designer Roger Arquer has designed the 'Nut Hammer,' a modern take on a childhood object he regards with fondness and affection, for the Danish brand Menu. Arquer was inspired by a nutcracker his uncle owned; it was comprised of a wooden bowl, complete with a distended island at the center, where the nut would rest. The nut would be whacked with a wooden mallet, a process which, according to Arquer, exuded "performance and theatrical[ity]." With the Nut Hammer, Arquer endeavors to retain that dramatic element, while minimizing the size. The design essentially condenses the performance into a simplified, compact form. The final product is similar to a hammer, featuring a traditional [wooden handle](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/legni-collection) and a [stainless steel head](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twist-collection-1), which removes so that the walnut can be inserted. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 57% | Activity: 12% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Compact Nutcrackers:** The trend of designing compact nutcrackers offers a more convenient and space-saving way to crack nuts. - **Performance-inspired Design:** Designs inspired by performance elements create a more engaging and entertaining nut-cracking experience. - **Minimalist Kitchen Tools:** The trend towards minimalist design in kitchen tools presents opportunities for innovative and visually appealing nut-cracking solutions. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Kitchenware:** The kitchenware industry can explore innovative nut-cracking designs to cater to consumers seeking compact and visually appealing tools. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can incorporate performance-inspired nutcracker designs as unique conversation pieces and functional decor items. - **Gourmet Food and Snacks:** The gourmet food and snacks industry can collaborate with designers to create custom nut-cracking tools that enhance the overall eating experience. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Springy Safety-Focused Nutcrackers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/silicone-nutcracker.md) - [Automated Countertop Nut Crackers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pelamatic-electric-nut-cracker.md) - [Festive Nutcracker Desserts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/specially-selected-hazel-nutcracker.md) - [Branded Beer-Opening Nutcrackers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beeropening-nutcrackers.md) - [Nut-Based Meat Replacements](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/walnut-meat.md) - [Skinless Gourmet Nut Snacks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tuffnut.md) - [Kitchenware Christmas Crackers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fortnums-1707-crackers.md) - [Single-Serving Nut Milk Makers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/automatic-nut-milk-maker.md) - [Versatile Nut-Based Recipe Toppers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crunchy-nut-toppers.md)
