# Abstract Cloud-Like Lighting The Nuage Lamp by Philippe Nigro is Cartoonish and Contemporary By Meghan Young | Published 2012-08-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nuage-lamp References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2012/08/09/nuage-lamp-by-philippe-nigro-for-foscarini/) & [philippenigro](http://www.philippenigro.com/) As per its name, the Nuage Lamp, which means 'cloud' in French, takes on an ethereal and abstract form. As though plucked from the skies above and tethered to a wall, the light fixture is slightly cartoonish with a clean and contemporary twist. The Nuage Lamp is made up of small modular panels with a grilled facade that filters the light through for a soft and romantic glow. Designed by Philippe Nigro, the Nuage Lamp was created for Italian lighting manufacturer [Foscarini](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foscarini-1). According to Contemporist, Nigro "wanted to create an object that was essentially graphic art, that was not looking to obtain a purely decorative effect but rather to develop a concept." He certainly accomplished that in a [richly theatrical way](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sipario). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.7/10 - Popularity: 86% | Activity: 77% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Abstract Lighting:** The Nuage Lamp showcases the trend of abstract lighting, creating unique and artistic lighting fixtures. - **Modular Design:** The small modular panels of the Nuage Lamp highlight the trend of modular design, allowing for customizable and versatile lighting solutions. - **Contemporary Aesthetics:** The clean and contemporary twist of the Nuage Lamp represents the trend of incorporating modern aesthetics into lighting design. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Lighting Manufacturing:** The Nuage Lamp presents disruptive innovation opportunities for the lighting manufacturing industry by introducing abstract and modular designs. - **Interior Design:** The unique and artistic nature of the Nuage Lamp opens up disruptive innovation opportunities for the interior design industry to create captivating lighting installations. - **Home Decor Retail:** The contemporary aesthetics of the Nuage Lamp offer disruptive innovation opportunities for the home decor retail industry, providing customers with modern and visually appealing lighting options. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dreamlike Bubble-Shaped Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/airshape-lamp.md) - [Geometric Industrial Desktop Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nebula-lamp.md) - [Hand-Cast Crystal Glowing Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nola-lamp.md) - [Pasta-Inspired Curvaceous Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neotenic-lamp.md) - [Illuminating Stone-Made Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nau-design.md) - [Organically Shaped Shadow Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loops-lamp.md) - [Silkworm-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/phantom-lighting.md) - [Balloon-Like Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soft-blown.md) - [Bulbous Whimsical Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neotenic.md)
