# Sculptural Topographic Abodes This Nova Scotian Home is Built Around Natural Rock By Christopher Magsambol | Published 2015-10-12 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nova-scotian-home References: [wallpaper](http://www.wallpaper.com/architecture/on-the-rocks-omar-gandhi-designs-a-new-house-for-the-canadian-countryside) A luxury Nova Scotian home will typically be an oceanside abode overlooking the Atlantic ocean. This countryside home, however, views a variety of natural element. Omar Gandhi's design for this countryside house regards the house as more of a sculpture, built around the [natural topography of the land](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-the-andes) and large boulders. Rather than creating one unit, Gandhi designed four [wood-cladded forms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/1807-holiday) that had to be rotated and moulded to fit within a specific natural environment. Interestingly, rather than have views of open fields and expansive vistas, the homeowner wanted views of the bouldering jagged rocks that surrounded the home. From the Nova Scotian home's dining room, its large [wrap-around windows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lj-residence) give the perception that you are immersed within these natural rocks and boulders. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.6/10 - Popularity: 35% | Activity: 4% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Natural Integration:** Designing structures that seamlessly integrate with the natural environment, such as incorporating natural elements like rocks and boulders into the architecture. - **Sculptural Living:** Creating homes that are designed to be visually striking and resemble sculptures, using innovative architectural techniques and materials. - **Unique Perspectives:** Providing homeowners with unconventional views and experiences, by incorporating unusual features like wrap-around windows that immerse them in the surrounding natural elements. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture and Design:** Innovative architects and designers can explore new ways to incorporate natural elements into their designs, creating unique and visually appealing structures. - **Luxury Real Estate:** Developers and builders in the luxury real estate market can leverage sculptural living concepts to create high-end, visually stunning homes that offer a distinctive living experience. - **Tourism and Hospitality:** Hotels or resorts can consider incorporating natural integration and unique perspectives into their designs to provide guests with memorable and immersive experiences in stunning natural settings. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Stone-Finished Coastal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/matopos.md) - [Off-Grid Oceanside Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/campos-studio.md) - [Tranquil Cozy Canadian Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/white-rock-cottage.md) - [Local Stone-Clad Coastal Shelters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caochan-na-creige.md) - [Nature-Merging Geometric Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neville-park-residence.md) - [Cedar Wood Triangular Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jib-house.md) - [Organic Coastal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diachok-architects.md) - [Contemporary Nature-Inspired Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nebo-house.md) - [Cave-Like Folded Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wild-house.md)
