# Subtle Swing-Like Seating The Ninna Armchair by Carlo Contin is Playful and Sophisticated By Meghan Young | Published 2013-06-27 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ninna-armchair References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/ninna-armchair-by-carlo-contin-for-adentro/) & [carlocontin.it](http://www.carlocontin.it/) The Ninna Armchair is a striking seat that might bring to mind an outdoor swing for some, the ones specifically catering to toddlers. This playfulness is a nice touch to the otherwise deceptively simple and sophisticated design. The simplicity is deceptive since there are a lot of careful details present in the Ninna Armchair. For instance, the legs are hand-turned out of [ash wood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sedia-tonda) while the base tapers inwards a bit to mimic the curve of the backrest. Designed by Italian designer Carlo Contin for Paris-based company Adentro, the Ninna Armchair was recently presented during [Salone del Mobile](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nook-sofa) in Milan. According to [Design Milk](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/breck-chair), the name of the seat is derived from the word 'Ninnare,' which means 'to cradle' in Italian. This is an entirely fitting sentiment. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.7/10 - Popularity: 85% | Activity: 49% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Playful Furniture:** Designing furniture that is both sophisticated and playful can attract more customers. - **Handmade Details:** Incorporating carefully crafted handmade details in furniture design can increase perceived value. - **Organic Curves:** Utilizing organic curved shapes in furniture design can create a more welcoming and comfortable environment. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture:** Furniture companies can incorporate playful and sophisticated design elements to create unique products. - **Home Decor:** Home decor companies can benefit from incorporating handmade details and organic curves to create a stylish and cozy ambiance in living spaces. - **Interior Design:** Interior design companies can use playful and sophisticated furniture to create visually appealing and comfortable environments for clients. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Smooth Textile Rounded Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/narinari.md) - [Sartorially Inspired Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/narinari-chair.md) - [Modernized Rocking Chair Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nodding-chair.md) - [Traditional Vibrant Outdoor Armchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/net-lounge.md) - [Contemporary Nordic Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nordic-chair-design.md) - [Curvaceous Ribbon-Like Armchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/qeeboo-ribbon-armchair.md) - [Playground-Inspired Seating Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/swing-seat.md) - [Nostalgic Bistro-Style Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aroma-chair.md) - [Minimalist Outdoor Swings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/outdoor-swing.md)
