# Retro 4K Cameras The Nikon 1 J5 Has Been Given a Retro Makeover By Rahul Kalvapalle | Published 2015-04-06 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nikon-1-j5 References: [gizmag](http://www.gizmag.com/nikon-1-j5-retro-4k-mirrorless-camera/36852/) & [imaging.nikon](http://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/acil/bodies/j5/) The [Nikon](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nikon-z-fc-black-edition) 1 J5 is a camera which brings together futuristic photography specs -- such as 4K video recording and continuous still shooting at 20 frames per second -- with unabashedly [retro design language](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/om-system-om3). This mid-range camera sits between the entry-level [S2](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cleaning-needs) camera and the high-end V3. However it is clearly targeted towards advanced photographers. It allows photographers to exert great control over their photographic projects using more physical controls and various high-end features. Its old-school styling is also sure to appeal to hard-nosed photographers. The Nikon J1 V5 works pretty snappily for a mirrorless camera, and is claimed to have an extremely short shooting time lag and a DSLR continuous shooting speed of 20 frames per second. Autofocus allows you capture the most fleeing of moments, with hybrid autofocus allowing for quick and accurate photographic performance. Nikon 1 mirrorless cameras have often been shunned due to their smaller sensors and plastic appearance. The Nikon 1 J5 however looks to be a concerted and effective attempt at countering this perception and elevating the line's reputation in the camera market. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.3/10 - Popularity: 86% | Activity: 95% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Photography](https://www.trendhunter.com/photography) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Retro Design:** Opportunity for brands to combine modern technology with nostalgic aesthetics to appeal to a niche market of consumers. - **4K Video Recording:** Potential for camera manufacturers to capitalize on the growing demand for high-quality video content by integrating 4K video recording capabilities into their products. - **Hybrid Autofocus:** Room for innovation in improving autofocus technology to enhance photographic performance and capture fleeting moments with greater speed and accuracy. ### Who This Affects Most - **Digital Cameras:** Camera manufacturers have an opportunity to differentiate their products by incorporating retro design elements and advanced features like 4K video recording and hybrid autofocus. - **Photography Equipment:** Brands can explore the market for retro-inspired accessories and add-ons that complement the design and functionality of retro 4K cameras. - **Video Production:** As the popularity of high-quality video content continues to rise, there is potential for companies in the video production industry to adapt to the demand for 4K video recording equipment and services. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Retro-Style 4K Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nikon-z-fc-black-edition.md) - [Vintage-Modern Sleek Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fujifilmxe5.md) - [Video-Focused Integrated Cooling Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/canon-powershot-v1.md) - [Mirrorless 4K Compact Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yashica-im-back-camera.md) - [40FPS Mirrorless Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/xh2s.md) - [Advancing Imaging Digital Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fujifilm-xt5.md) - [Mirrorless High-Speed Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/xh2-camera.md) - [New Normal Camera Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nikon-coolpix-100-remake.md) - [Compact Vlogging Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vlogging-cameras.md)
