# Abstract Geometric Gazebos Nikksja Multifunctional Structure Exposes and Encloses Outdoor Spaces By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-11-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nikksja References: [designspotter](http://www.designspotter.com/product/2013/10/NIKKSJA-Multifunctional-Structure.html) & [nuvist](http://www.nuvist.com/works/nikksja/) When a designer is dealing with an outdoor area -- especially within a site with year-round warm weather -- care must be taken to balance out enclosure and exposure. The Nikksja multifunctional structure does not render patio space dark and undesirable when the sun is shining, and nor does it make a person feel unprotected beneath a cloudless sky. Emrah Cetinkaya of Turkey presents another project that's formally fascinating. The abstract shape of the pavilion is fluid and sculptural, creating loops and curves with a spacious occupiable pocket beneath it. The unusual framework is substantial enough to offer some [refuge from the shifting sun](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ensombra), as well as from rain and wind. The Nikksja makes an ideal [pergola for a pool deck](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-tres-patis), with lawn chairs and sun loungers lined up about it. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.6/10 - Popularity: 53% | Activity: 46% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Abstract Geometric Design:** Designers can explore abstract geometric designs in outdoor structures to create visually captivating and functional spaces. - **Multifunctional Structures:** There is an opportunity to develop outdoor structures that serve multiple purposes, providing both enclosure and exposure. - **Fluid and Sculptural Frameworks:** Innovative designers can experiment with fluid and sculptural frameworks to create unique and visually appealing outdoor structures. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture and Design:** Architects and designers can leverage abstract geometric designs and multifunctional structures in their outdoor projects. - **Landscape Design:** Landscape designers can incorporate fluid and sculptural frameworks in their designs to enhance outdoor spaces. - **Hospitality and Leisure:** The hospitality and leisure industry can benefit from abstract geometric gazebos in creating visually appealing outdoor areas for their customers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Contemporary Backyard Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cosmo-pavilion.md) - [Outdoor Pavilion Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/teepee-pavilion.md) - [Interactive Architectural Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-landscape.md) - [Interactive Public Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/radius-transformation-pavilion.md) - [Climate-Sensitive Pavilion Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/querkraft.md) - [Rocky Garden-Nestled Serene Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-3to1-pavilion.md) - [Contemporary Garden Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/garden-pavilion-2.md) - [Light Filtered Glulam Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paviljong-rosendal.md) - [Bamboo Luxe Pool Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/godai-pavilion.md)
