# Glowing Tree-Surrounded Sheds The 'Nightlight' Shed Glows After Dark for a Luminous Appearance By Michael Hemsworth | Published 2023-02-27 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nightlight-shed References: [yankodesign](https://www.yankodesign.com/2023/02/27/this-wooden-and-polycarbonate-shed-in-new-zealand-glows-in-the-dark/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=this-wooden-and-polycarbonate-shed-in-new-zealand-glows-in-the-dark) & [fabricarchitecture.au](https://www.fabricarchitecture.com.au/) The 'Nightlight' shed has been designed by Fabric Design as a functional yet stylish structure located on a property in Akaroa, New Zealand that acts as a vibrant beacon in after dark scenarios. The shed comes in at 10-square-meters and is surrounded by kãnuka trees on a small clearing to have it stand as a [modern, hidden structure](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/love-shack-1) that functions at present as [a place for storing essentials](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/schtauss). The shed has been created ahead of the development of the property to act as the first stepping stone towards a larger family compound. Fabric Design spoke further on the 'Nightlight' shed saying, "Rather than locating this building out of sight like a typical shed or using it only for its services, Nightlight has been reimagined as a [light sculpture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paviljong-rosendal) that will proudly be seen from the future outdoor living space. The filtered light seen glowing between the slats at night is a contrasting aesthetic to the minimalist facade seen throughout the day." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.3/10 - Popularity: 71% | Activity: 15% | Freshness: 14% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Functional Art:** Designing functional structures to serve a specific purpose while also serving as a piece of art that is visually appealing. - **Nighttime Architecture:** Designing architecture with an emphasis on its appearance and functionality in low-light or nighttime environments. - **Hidden Modernism:** Integrating modern design and functionality into structures that are discreet or hidden in natural surroundings. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Real Estate Development:** Developing properties that prioritize modern and visually appealing functional structures as a selling point. - **Architecture and Design:** Incorporating visually appealing and functional features into buildings and other structures to create engaging nighttime environments. - **Landscaping and Outdoor Design:** Creating outdoor living spaces that prioritize unique and visually striking structures as part of their overall aesthetic. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sleek Timber-Constructed Sheds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-nightlight.md) - [Forest Lantern Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iside-home.md) - [Lantern-Topped Sleek Workshops](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gardeners-house.md) - [Dual-Workspace Backyard Sheds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/workshed.md) - [Solar-Powered Floral Garden Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solar-tree-house.md) - [Library-Converted Modern Sheds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-light-box-1.md) - [Metaphorical Physical Community Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lighthouse-church.md) - [Earthy Tonal Tiled Sheds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studio-shed-1.md) - [Skylight-Centric Home Renovations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portland-house-renovation.md)
