# Political Parody Easter Chocolates The 'Easter Clegg' Makes Fun of the Uk's Deputy PM Nick Clegg By Laura McQuarrie | Published 2014-04-21 | Pop Culture Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nick-clegg References: [prexamples](http://prexamples.com/2014/04/labour-launches-the-easter-clegg-which-contain-no-nuts-and-will-melt-under-pressure/) & [mirror](http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/nick-clegg-easter-eggs-labour-3433843) For Easter this year, the UK's Labour party set up a brilliant political jab at British politician Nick Clegg, the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The stunt involved producing a small number of 'Easter Cleggs,' packed with witty wordplay against the deputy PM. The chocolate bust of Clegg was described as "[completely hollow](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chocolate-croissant-easter-egg)" and is said to "leave a bad taste in your mouth" and will "melt under pressure." As well, the box for the Easter Clegg notes that it includes a free mug inside, although this seems to be some careful word twisting, meaning that the only mug you'll really get is the face on the chocolate Clegg. The Easter Clegg was released just in time for Easter, as well as ahead of the elections that will take place in May. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.2/10 - Popularity: 14% | Activity: 44% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) > [Humor](https://www.trendhunter.com/humor) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Political Parody Chocolates:** The use of Easter Clegg as a creative mock-up chocolate character can open opportunities for other political figures to also be parodied with chocolates for various events or occasions. - **Witty Wordplay Packaging:** The clever wordplay in the packaging of the Easter Clegg chocolate can pave the way for other products or brands to have witty and humorous packaging to capture consumers' attention and increase brand image. - **Satirical Gift Items:** Creating satirical gift items like the Easter Clegg can be a potential disruptive innovation for the gift-giving industry as it provides a new and unique way of giving gifts for different occasions. ### Where This Applies - **Chocolate Industry:** The production of political parody chocolates can be an innovative approach for the chocolate industry to attract consumers who are interested in political humor. - **Marketing and Advertising Industry:** The use of clever and humorous wordplay in packaging products like the Easter Clegg can be a potential disruptive innovation for the marketing and advertising industry to increase brand image and attract consumers. - **Gift Industry:** The creation of satirical gift items like the Easter Clegg can open opportunities for innovation in the gift industry and provide unique and interesting gift options for special occasions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Speckled Easter Chocolate Snacks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/poppets-poppeggs.md) - [Textural Flat Easter Chocolates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gnaw-chocolate-eggs.md) - [Ethical Easter Chocolate Products](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tonys-chocolonely-chunky-egg.md) - [Breakfast-Inspired Easter Chocolates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chocolate-egg-easter.md) - [Easter Popcorn Treats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ms-fried-egg-choccorn.md) - [Collaboration Easter Chocolate Products](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nestle-easter-products.md) - [Indulgently Layered Easter Chocolates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/deluxe-layered-eggs.md) - [Candy-Filled Egg-Shaped Treats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cadbury-easter-eggs.md) - [Branded Candy Easter Products](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nestl-easter-eggs.md)
