Newtrace, a Bengaluru deeptech startup, introduced Voltagen, a proprietary advanced electrode designed for alkaline water electrolysers, featuring a materials-focused architecture meant to boost energy efficiency, extend component lifetime and lower hydrogen production costs.

The company announced a $6.3 million Pre-Series A round led by HDFC Bank Ltd and Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Venture Capital to scale pilot manufacturing, validate customers and expand engineering capacity. Voltagen is engineered as a drop-in electrode replacement so electrolyser OEMs and hydrogen project developers can upgrade performance without redesigning systems; Newtrace has also commercialized a membraneless electrolyser within its platform. Initial commercial deliveries of Voltagen were slated to begin within 12 months, positioning the product to help reduce green hydrogen’s cost barrier by improving materials and manufacturability for industrial hydrogen producers.
