# Functional Origami-Like Furniture The News Coffee Table by Boris Ignatov is Great for Saving Space By Katherinev123 | Published 2012-01-30 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/news-coffee-table References: [evolo.us](http://www.evolo.us/architecture/news-coffee-table-ignatov-architects/) & [bignatov](http://bignatov.com/html_pages/newstable.htm) Designer Boris Ignatov's News Coffee Table is a furniture piece that addresses the issue of organization when it comes to reading materials (because most of us, I'm sure, simply throw our magazines and newspapers haphazardly, only to be frustrated when tidying up later). Inspired by his small New York City apartment, Ignatov designed this origami-like, multi-functional coffee table to create a more efficient space. The News Coffee Table, as its name suggests, provides users with a newspaper rack and coffee table in one, which is perfect for "people who love sipping coffee while browsing magazines," says the designer. With its small size, hexagonal shape and hidden wheels on its bottom, the table can fit into any small living space and easily moved around when necessary. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.5/10 - Popularity: 92% | Activity: 94% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Multi-functional Furniture:** Designing furniture with multiple functions to maximize small living spaces. - **Space-saving Furniture:** Creating furniture that is compact, foldable, stackable, or easily mobile to save space in small living areas. - **Origami Furniture Design:** Incorporating origami techniques in furniture design to create unique and functional pieces. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Opportunities for manufacturing and selling multi-functional and space-saving furniture for customers living in small spaces. - **Home Decor and Furnishings Retail:** Marketing and selling origami-like furniture designs that are stylish, modern, and space-efficient for apartment owners and renters. - **Interior Design Services:** Providing interior design services that focus on maximizing small living spaces by incorporating multi-functional and space-saving furniture pieces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Minimalist Book Storage Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pocket-coffee-table.md) - [Paper-Like Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cocoon-coffee-table.md) - [Artful Coffee Table Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vertushka.md) - [Compact Functional Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookmarker-table.md) - [Modernized Old-Fashioned Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/union-side-table.md) - [Reversable Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reverse.md) - [Bent Multi-Functional Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-shell-table.md) - [Perplexingly Angular Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tadashi-side-table.md) - [Japandi-Style Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cloth-coffee-table.md)
