For the launch of Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up, [Netflix](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/squid-game-palermo) and [Sotheby’s](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-shapes-of-cartier) teamed up to create a [custom New Balance 550 sneaker](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-balances-tech-explosion). The one-of-a-kind sneaker sets itself apart with a design that features fragments of the pallasite meteorite, recovered from the Russian river of Hekandue.

Matt Burgess of MattB Customs created the sneakers using a high-pressure water jet to precisely cut the meteorite pieces to fit the contours of the shoe. The inclusion of the 4.5 billion-year-old pallasite meteorite pays tribute to Jennifer Lawrence’s character Kate Dibiasky, an astronomy grad student, who makes a breakthrough discovery with her professor of a comet that is on a direct collision course with Earth. There are 34 fragments of the ancient, extra-terrestrial crystals in the special edition sneaker.
