# TV-Inspired Comic Book Covers These Covers Show the Netflix Original Black Mirror in a New Medium By Kalin Ned | Published 2018-01-29 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/netflix-original-black-mirror References: [fubiz.net](http://www.fubiz.net/en/2018/01/29/fictional-comic-book-covers-of-the-tv-series-black-mirror-2/) & [behance.net](https://www.behance.net/gallery/46262739/Butcher-Billys-Dark-Tales-From-The-Black-Mirror) Brasil-based illustrator Butcher Billy created fictitious comic book covers for the popular Netflix Original Black Mirror series. Embracing the 1950s classic comic book aesthetic, color scheme and packaging, Billy distinctly captures the spirit of the tech-horror anthology's episodes. Each illustration bears strong reference to key distinctive details and the comic book covers are relatively recognizable to those who have watched Black Mirror. The illustrations create alternate universe conspiracies, where the cult favorite TV show was based on a comic book. The new season four collection boasts designs centered around Tommy's lollipop from 'USS Callister,' the pet rodent from 'Crocodile,' as well as a beautiful Betty Boop-styled black and white cover for Metalhead. The illustrations are subtle, but get the point across. Perhaps, a new ironic twist for the Netflix Original Black Mirror is an accompanying 1950s style comic series. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.6/10 - Popularity: 83% | Activity: 48% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Retro-inspired Comic Book Art:** Artists are embracing the classic comic book aesthetic to create retro-inspired illustrations for popular TV shows and movies, offering a new medium for storytelling. - **Alternate Universe Conspiracies:** Creating fictitious comic book covers for popular TV shows and movies can generate alternate universe conspiracy theories, sparking intrigue and engagement from fans. - **Irony in Pop Culture:** The creation of a 1950s style comic series as an ironic twist for a modern TV show highlights the appeal of blending nostalgia and contemporary themes in pop culture. ### Who This Affects Most - **Illustration and Graphic Design:** The demand for retro-inspired comic book art for popular TV shows and movies creates opportunities for illustrators and graphic designers to showcase their skills and creativity. - **Entertainment and Media:** The trend of creating alternate universe conspiracies through fictitious comic book covers can generate buzz and excitement, driving engagement and viewership for TV shows and movies. - **Pop Culture Merchandise:** The emergence of a 1950s style comic series as accompanying merchandise for a modern TV show presents a valuable opportunity for the pop culture merchandise industry to cater to nostalgic fans. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Customized Streaming Platform Features](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/streamberry.md) - [Revived Retro Animations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stranger-things-animated-series.md) - [Retro Sci-Fi Cereal Boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stranger-things-cereals.md) - [Netflix Show-Inspired Tech Gear](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stranger-things-1.md) - [Pixelated Streaming Series Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stranger-things-litebrite-deluxe-wall-art.md) - [Sci-Fi 80s Smartwatch Straps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mobyfox-x-stranger-things.md) - [Sci-Fi Show Pop-Up Books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stranger-things-the-ultimate-popup-book.md) - [80s-Style Sci-Fi Pizzas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surfer-boy-pizzas.md) - [Throwback Walkie-Talkie Collectibles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stranger-things-upside-down-capsules-series-3.md)
