# Aquatic Creature-Inspired Tables The 'Nessie' Side Table by Deniz Aktay Has a Simple, Chic Form By Michael Hemsworth | Published 2023-04-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nessie-side-table References: [yankodesign](https://www.yankodesign.com/2023/04/23/eccentric-side-table-puts-a-mythical-beast-in-your-living-space/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=eccentric-side-table-puts-a-mythical-beast-in-your-living-space) & [dezin.de](https://www.dezin.de/) The 'Nessie' side table has been designed by Deniz Aktay as a folklore-inspired furniture piece for the modern home that doesn't skimp when it comes to functionality. The table features a simple construction achieved with wood and has an almost slithering body movement appearance that swoops forward to provide a small platform for placing drinks or decor pieces. The [creature-like design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bug-table) of the side table is inspired by the Loch Ness monster, but takes a subtle approach that wouldn't otherwise be noticed by an onlooker. The 'Nessie' side table also features a triangular base for placing books or magazines, which keeps them both on display and acts as a bookmark. The simple yet elegant table is kept balanced thanks to a counterweight in the rear to prevent toppling. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.9/10 - Popularity: 74% | Activity: 28% | Freshness: 15% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Creature-inspired Furniture:** Opportunity for furniture makers to create unique pieces that appeal to those who enjoy quirky and mythical designs. - **Multi-functional Furniture:** Designers can create furniture with multiple uses, appealing to those with limited space, who require functionality as well as aesthetic appeal. - **Nature-inspired Design:** Incorporating natural themes into furniture design provides a unique selling point and offers a connection to nature for potential buyers. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Making:** The furniture industry can benefit from creating unique furniture that appeals to individuals seeking mythical designs as well as multi-functional furniture. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can benefit from incorporating nature-inspired design into homes to create a unique and natural feel. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can focus on creating and offering unique decor items that incorporate creature-inspired and nature-inspired designs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Moveable Wave-Inspired Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/side-table-concept.md) - [Curvaceous Abstract Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pet-table.md) - [Curvaceous Animalistic Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookpet-coffee-table.md) - [Fabric-Like Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tablecloth-side-table.md) - [Puzzling Geometric Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/linked-side-table.md) - [Chic Sustainable Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oceanides-table-collection.md) - [Intersecting Two-Part Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shaolin-side-table.md) - [Cobra-Inspired Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cobra-table.md) - [Illusory Cracked Base Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/conceptual-side-table.md)
