# High-Density Birdhouses The Nendo Bird-Apartment Accommodates 78 Fowl Families and One Human By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-09-12 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nendo-birdapartment References: [notcot.org](http://www.notcot.org/post/50108/) & [nendo.jp](http://www.nendo.jp/en/works/detail.php?y=2012&t=292) The [Nendo](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hand-in-hand-house) Bird-Apartment is such an impressively large birdhouse that it approaches a human scale. In fact, it might surprise you to learn that one of the inhabitants of this treetop dwelling could actually be a person. An iconic form of a simplified pitched roof home was chosen as the structure to incorporate so many little condos for lovely winged occupants. There are 78 roosts in total and all of them have [round open entries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/timber-nest) off of the same facade. Each one is accented with the quirky inclusion of an A-frame overhang. The depth of the Nendo Bird-Apartment might first have stumped you. Indeed, there is a gaping space behind the [nesting niches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nesting-plan-vi-call-duck). It can be accessed by ladder and entered through a person-scaled porthole. It's a cozy alcove with tons of tiny peepholes that peer into the birds' different rooms. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 41% | Activity: 12% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Large-scale Animal Accommodations:** Designing animal homes that approach a human scale can provide new opportunities for pet owners to bond with their animals and create unique living spaces for them. - **Innovative Birdhouse Design:** Creating unique and innovative birdhouses with multiple rooms and unique features can provide new opportunities for bird lovers and nature enthusiasts. - **Functional Outdoor Furniture:** Designing outdoor furniture that can double as housing for animals, such as birdhouses and insect hotels, can create functional and sustainable living spaces for both humans and animals. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Pet Industry:** The pet industry can take inspiration from this birdhouse design and create new products and services that focus on innovative and unique ways to accommodate animals. - **Furniture Industry:** The furniture industry can explore new designs and materials for outdoor furniture that can double as animal homes, providing functional and sustainable products. - **Eco-tourism Industry:** The eco-tourism industry can create unique experiences for travelers by incorporating animal accommodations into their offerings, such as birdhouses and insect hotels. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Birdhouse-Resembling Narrow Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-birdhouse.md) - [Interactive Observation Wooden Birdhouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/domik-ptashki.md) - [Birdhouse-Integrated Address Signs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/our-common-house.md) - [Modernism Birdhouse Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dwellings-project.md) - [Elevated Treetop Modern Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buitenverblijf-nest.md) - [Dual-Camera Birdhouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/birdfy-nest.md) - [Greenery-Surrounding Lush Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nest-house-1.md) - [Educational Linoleum Birdhouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elvi-birdhouse.md) - [Nature-Shared A-Frame Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kumiki-architects.md)
