# Supercar-Inspired Wheelchairs Neilson Navarette Designs an Assistive Seat Inspired by the Audi R8 By Michael Hines | Published 2013-01-06 | Autos Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neilson-navarette References: [industrialdesignserved](http://www.industrialdesignserved.com/gallery/Wheelchair-Concept/5137357) & [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/neilsonnavarrete) Neilson Navarette is a Filipino designer who has conceived a wheelchair inspired by one of the world's fastest cars: the [Audi](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/audi-smart-spinning-bike) R8. It would be a stretch to say that this concept looks exactly like the R8, but both the car and the wheelchair are curvy and eye-catching. The design features three wheels, two on the side and a free-floating rear wheel used to maneuver the chair. Neilson Navarette cut weight by going with low-profile tires and by adding a smaller electric engine; the lighter engine allows the chair to be easily pushed if needed. Additionally, the [slip cover can be switched out](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mobidry), which allows for a bit of customization. Many people across the world use wheelchairs everyday, but not many designers take the time to dream up new wheelchairs. Neilson Navarette has designed a realistic concept that is both functional and fashionable. When's the last time you heard someone call a wheelchair fashionable? ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.6/10 - Popularity: 93% | Activity: 98% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Autos](https://www.trendhunter.com/autos) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Supercar-inspired Wheelchairs:** Designing wheelchairs with sleek and eye-catching elements inspired by high-performance cars creates opportunities for innovative and stylish mobility solutions. - **Lightweight and Maneuverable Wheelchairs:** Developing wheelchairs with lightweight materials and improved maneuverability, such as the use of three wheels and smaller electric engines, offers enhanced mobility and ease of use for wheelchair users. - **Customizable Wheelchair Designs:** Introducing interchangeable slip covers and customizable features in wheelchair designs allows for personalization and self-expression, enhancing the overall user experience and promoting inclusivity. ### Who This Affects Most - **Mobility Equipment Industry:** The mobility equipment industry can explore the integration of sleek and stylish elements inspired by supercars, offering innovative and visually appealing wheelchair designs to consumers. - **Healthcare and Assistive Technology Industry:** The healthcare and assistive technology industry can leverage lightweight materials and improved maneuverability to develop advanced wheelchairs that enhance user mobility and improve quality of life. - **Fashion and Accessory Industry:** The fashion and accessory industry can collaborate with wheelchair designers to create customizable slip covers and fashionable accessories that cater to the personal style and preferences of wheelchair users. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Luxury Discrete Wheelchair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/discrete-wheelchair.md) - [Transformable Lightweight Wheelchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wheeliy.md) - [Modified Wheelchair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leaning-wheelchair.md) - [Airplane-Friendly Wheelchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/airchair-wheelchair.md) - [Sleek Robotic Wheelchair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robotic-wheelchair.md) - [Upright Wheelchair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kime-wheelchair.md) - [Robotic Movement-Interpreting Wheelchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/honda-unione.md) - [Accessibility-Promoting Electric Quadricycles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electric-quadricycle.md) - [Modular Powered Wheelchair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wheelchair-hand-cycle.md)
