The design studio converted a two-storey duplex into a single unit with a little elbow grease and a [430 sq ft extension](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/henville-street-house) in the rear. The home, titled the '8th Avenue' House, is a [minimalist-lover's dream](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/townhouse-vi). The additional space made room for a second-floor master bedroom and ground-floor family room, which opens out into a cozy personal garden. The extension's facade was designed with incongruous sides and bright colors, making it a stand out feature on an otherwise simple Montreal lane way. As for the interior, it features [exposed beams and wooden walls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vaulted-monochrome-haus) that act as contrast on the otherwise stark, all-white surroundings. Natural light is encouraged via a skylight and glass floor at the center of the house. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.2/10 - Popularity: 97% | Activity: 81% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Minimalist Architecture:** The rise of minimalist architecture designs incorporating natural elements like wood could disrupt the conventional housing sector by offering a low-cost, eco-friendly housing alternative. - **Sustainable Home Design:** Sustainable home design that prioritizes natural elements like wood and encourages natural light could promote environmental action and foster more eco-friendly living. - **Efficient Use of Space:** Efficient use of space in minimalist homes could disrupt the real estate sector by providing affordable housing solutions in densely-populated urban areas. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Architectural firms can tap into the growing demand for eco-friendly, minimalist homes to showcase their design capabilities, while adhering to clients' preferences. - **Real Estate:** Real Estate developers can provide housing solutions that cater to the growing trend of minimalistic living by offering well-designed, low-cost homes in crowded urban areas. - **Construction:** Construction service providers can explore innovative ways to incorporate natural elements like wood in housing designs to cater to the rising demand for minimalist, eco-friendly homes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Mid-Century Style Montreal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/residence-ave-duchastel.md) - [Discrete Lakeside Modern Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/palissade.md) - [Timber-Clad Canadian Holiday Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/la-cime.md) - [Log Cabin-Inspired Minimal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/restua.md) - [Lofty Minimalist Living Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-living-space1.md) - [Contemporary Mountainous Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mountainous-home.md) - [Serene Heartwarming Villa Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/villa-minimale.md) - [Minimal Philosophy Toronto Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/forest-hill-residence.md) - [Minimal Japanese Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-kyobate.md)
