# Surreal Nature Self-Portraits Giulio Musardo Weaves Himself into Fantastical Visual Narratives By Meghan Young | Published 2014-09-25 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nature-selfportrait References: [mymodernmet](http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/giulio-musardo-photos) & [flickr](https://www.flickr.com/photos/giuliomusardo/) Nature self-portraits are often gorgeous in and of themselves, but 19-year-old Italian photographer Giulio Musardo takes them to the next level by adding a strong [surreal element](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1). Putting himself into fantastical visual narratives, his nature self-portraits show him interacting with bubbles, bees and even smoke. Whether floating in mid-air or clothed in nothing more than opaque vapor, the images will take people's breath away. A growing presence on Flickr, these nature self-portraits resonate deeply with people of all walks of life. Musardo says, "Each one of my photos expresses a moment, a feeling that the mind processes through the use of pictures, like a parallel world where time stands still. My pictures are characterized by key elements. Small messages are often difficult and mysterious." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.3/10 - Popularity: 73% | Activity: 17% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Surreal Nature Photography:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Exploring new ways to blend reality and imagination in nature photography, creating visually stunning and thought-provoking images. - **Visual Narrative Photography:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Experimenting with storytelling through self-portraits in natural landscapes, creating captivating and immersive narratives. - **Parallel World Photography:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Pushing the boundaries of perception by capturing moments and emotions in photographs that transport viewers to a parallel world where time stands still. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art and Photography:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporating surreal elements into traditional photography to create unique and captivating artworks. - **Visual Arts Education:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Introducing courses or workshops that teach aspiring photographers how to create visually striking and conceptually rich nature self-portraits. - **Digital Content Creation:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Collaborating with photographers like Giulio Musardo to produce engaging digital content that pushes the boundaries of creativity and imagination. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [AI-Generated Poetic Photo Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emilio-alarcn.md) - [Nature-Inspired Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/humannature-1.md) - [Stunning Origami Portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-portaits.md) - [Blurry Abstract Photography Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optical-allusion.md) - [AI-Generated Real-World Transformations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-generated-world.md) - [Human Nature-Themed Art Galleries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sea-im-awake.md) - [Illuminated Curtained Light Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/making-the-invisible-visible.md) - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md) - [Artful Suspended Fashion Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/invisible-figures.md)
