The new app is the latest collaboration between NASA and [Planetary Resources](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eclipse-app), a real asteroid hunting company that will use the data collected and analyzed by users with NASA. The NASA Asteroid Hunter software is desktop enabled and encompasses a new algorithm that was created as a result of the Asteroid Grand Challenge that NASA announced at SXSW 2014, which concluded in November. The app will allow individuals to analyze images taken with their own telescopes and is considered a reaction to the overwhelming number of asteroid-like objects circling Earth. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 30% | Activity: 39% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Computers](https://www.trendhunter.com/computers) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Space Crowdsourcing:** Citizen scientists can participate in asteroid hunting through NASA's Asteroid Hunter app. - **Desktop Astronomy:** NASA Asteroid Hunter is a desktop enabled app that allows users to analyze space images. - **Asteroid Data Analysis:** NASA Asteroid Hunter provides a new algorithm for data analysis that was developed through the Asteroid Grand Challenge. ### Where This Applies - **Aerospace:** NASA Asteroid Hunter is a new way for space enthusiasts to engage with NASA and Planetary Resources. - **Data Analysis:** The app provides a unique data set for analysis by researchers. - **Technology:** NASA Asteroid Hunter is a new application of technology for amateur space enthusiasts. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Eclipse-Capturing Smartphone Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sunsketcher.md) - [Regional Eclipse Guidance Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eclipse-app.md) - [AR Astronomy Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/space-gate.md) - [Community-Based Eclipse Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/2024-eclipse.md) - [Debris-Reporting Wildlife Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/debrireporting-wildlife-app.md) - [Space Exploration Streaming Services](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nasa-streaming-service.md) - [Alien-Hunting AR Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/taito.md) - [AI-Powered Dinosaur Tracking Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dinosaur-footprints.md) - [Gaming Computer Applications](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ayaspace-app.md)
