# Idiosyncratic Framed Soakers The Naked Bathtub is a Sunken Basin Supported by Storage By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-02-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/naked-bathtub References: [giopatocoombes](http://www.giopatocoombes.com/immagini_prodotto.php?lang=en&prod_id=4) Jacuzzis are such substantial domestic features that nearly cease to be furnishings and become part of the structure of the bathroom. The Naked Bathtub is different because it actually succeeds at looking both light and mobile. Giopato & Coombes came up with the concept for this [modern soaker](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baina-1) by exploring the possible reaction of an [elastic acrylic sheet](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sustainable-bathroom-design) to a heavy volume of water. With the support of a sturdy structural framework, the supple material might simply expand, slump and suspend from its secured edges, exposing the smooth catenary shape of its bulging belly. From this surround of slender scaffolding, the Naked Bathtub is enhanced with flush gunnels and [open shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-spot). The piece embodies an unexpected lightness, further promoted by its ability to be installed anywhere in the washroom. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.0/10 - Popularity: 64% | Activity: 19% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Lightweight Soaker Tubs:** Opportunities for innovation exist in developing more lightweight and mobile bathtub designs that can be installed anywhere in a bathroom. - **Elastic Materials in Furnishings:** There is potential to explore new uses for elastic acrylic and other materials in the design of home furnishings and accessories. - **Flush Gunnels in Bathroom Design:** Designers can consider incorporating flush gunnels in their bathroom fixtures to create a seamless and streamlined look. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Bathroom Fixtures:** Manufacturers of bathroom fixtures can explore using new materials and designs, like elastic acrylic and lightweight shelving and framing, to create modern and functional pieces. - **Home Furnishings:** Companies in the home furnishings industry can innovate by exploring the use of elastic materials in their designs, creating unique and functional pieces. - **Architecture and Interior Design:** Architects and interior designers can incorporate flush gunnels and other seamless design elements in their projects to create a cohesive and modern look. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Hardwood Based Bathtubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beam-bathtub.md) - [Sophisticated High-Design Bath Lines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soaking-tub.md) - [Malleable Removable Bathtubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bathtope.md) - [Customizable Minimalist Bathtubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/acquabella-noon-slate.md) - [Luxe Translucent Bathtubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lusso-amore-freestanding-resin-bath.md) - [Rounded Hydromassage Tubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aretusa-tub-by-claudio-papa.md) - [Japanese Snack Box-Inspired Bathtubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bento-starck-box.md) - [Cedar Wood Soaking Tubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ofuro-bathtub.md) - [Automated Relaxation Bathtubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-bathtub.md)
