# Creative Crate Designs Naihan Li Has Stored an Entire Living Room into Boxes By Omar Yusuf | Published 2011-10-21 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/naihan-li References: [treehugger](http://www.treehugger.com/files/2011/10/mobile-crates-transformer-furniture-naihan-li.php) & [naihanli](http://www.naihanli.com/) A wave of "[transforming" furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metamorphosis-collection-2) has recently taken the architecture and design world by storm, and Naihan Li is building atop that pattern of morphing interior items. Though at first glance, Naihan's display room is occupied only by innocuous crates -- each, however, is curiously outfitted with [rolling wheels and built-in handles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/harbor-051). Within moments, the collection of boring boxes is transformed into a stylish, minimal lounge, complete with couches, an entertainment center, study space and even some shrubbery. Rearranging the area is made effortless by the integrated wheels and the light weight of the unfinished timber; plus, locking mechanisms prevent any of the boxes from accidentally opening. Uncomplicated, [modular and fun](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gioco), Naihan Li's designs made a splash at the recent Beijing Design Week. You might suggest lightweight steel as opposed to dry wood -- it'd be a shame for one's living room to suddenly vanish in a cloud of smoke. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.7/10 - Popularity: 55% | Activity: 49% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Transforming Furniture:** Naihan Li's creative crate designs showcase the trend of transforming furniture, offering exciting possibilities for space-saving and versatile interior design solutions. - **Modular Living Spaces:** Naihan Li's modular crate designs demonstrate the trend of creating flexible and customizable living spaces, providing opportunities to adapt to different needs and preferences. - **Minimalist Interior Design:** Naihan Li's innovative crate designs align with the trend of minimalist interior design, offering simple yet stylish and functional furniture solutions for modern living environments. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing:** The furniture manufacturing industry can explore disruptive innovation by investing in the development of transforming and modular furniture designs. - **Interior Design:** The interior design industry can leverage the trend of transforming and modular furniture to create innovative and adaptable living spaces for clients. - **Architecture:** The architecture industry can embrace the trend of minimalist interior design and modular living spaces to design more efficient and flexible buildings. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Mountainous Repurposed Crate Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crate-installation.md) - [Upcycled Waste Material Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cardboard-furniture-design.md) - [Storage Box-Transformed Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chunks-and-blocks.md) - [Modular Furniture Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arca.md) - [Interlocking Living Room Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interlocking-living-room-furniture.md) - [Compact Furniture Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/boxed-collection.md) - [Adaptive Furniture Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/expand-furniture.md) - [Cardboard Box Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/karton-furniture-collection.md) - [Envelope-Packaged Couch Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/couch-in-an-envelope.md)
