# Theft-Proof Smartphone Chargers The MyPlug Charger Only Activates with a Passcode By Joey Haar | Published 2017-01-16 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/myplug-charger References: [kickstarter](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1881196998/myplug-the-first-theft-proof-charging-cable-ever-m?token=a767a083) & [myplugcable](http://www.myplugcable.com/) The MyPlug charger is a new [smartphone cable concept](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-magcable) that helps people carry around their charger without worrying about it getting nicked when they aren't paying attention. The charging cable is embedded with a small pad that controls it, only providing energy if the user enters a password. Whether at the hands of family and friends who accidentally take a charger thinking its their own or those of thieves of low ethical standing, [smartphone chargers are vulnerable](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nomad-chargekey-v2) to getting snatched. Even though smartphones themselves have [password locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/outletguard) that are virtually impenetrable, baseless crooks and opportunists might still make off with a charger in lieu of a phone. With the MyPlug charger, even that attempt would be fruitless. The charger requires a password, which can be entered on the pad along the wire, whenever a new phone is plugged into it. This password is set by the owner, and it's easily reset if someone catches on. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.6/10 - Popularity: 22% | Activity: 18% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Theft-proof Smartphone Chargers:** The MyPlug charger uses a passcode for activation, providing a solution to the issue of stolen chargers. - **Embedded Security Features:** The trend of embedding security features in everyday devices, like the password-protected pad on the MyPlug charger, offers enhanced protection against theft. - **Convenience and Portability in Charging Solutions:** The MyPlug charger's compact design and password-based activation cater to the growing demand for convenient and secure charging options. ### Where This Applies - **Smartphone Accessories:** Theft-proof chargers such as the MyPlug charger create opportunities for innovation within the smartphone accessories industry, focusing on security and convenience. - **Consumer Electronics:** The integration of theft-proof features, like passcode activation, in consumer electronics devices like chargers presents disruptive innovation opportunities in the industry. - **Smart Home Technology:** The MyPlug charger's embedded security features align with the smart home technology industry's emphasis on enhancing security and control. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Data-Blocking Cables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plugable-data-blocking-cable.md) - [Real-Time Monitoring Charging Cables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chipofy-cable.md) - [Data-Destroying Laptop Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buskill-usb-cord.md) - [Data Storage Smartphone Chargers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/memkeeper-charger.md) - [Vibrant Lanyard Charging Cables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lanyard-charging.md) - [Smartphone Retail Security Tags](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/safe-tag.md) - [Anti-Theft Phone Cases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unsnatchable-phone-case.md) - [Anti-Slip Device Chargers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anker-prime-charger.md) - [Display-Equipped Smart Chargers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dino-charger.md)
