# Short-Lived Granulated Rugs The Muurbloem Rugs are Ephemeral Public Decorations By Ana Lopez | Published 2011-10-14 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/muurbloem-rugs References: [junk-culture](http://www.junk-culture.com/2011/10/sand-carpets.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:) & [muurbloem](http://www.muurbloem.com/pagesuk.php?pid=3) When I admire the Muurbloem Sand Carpets, I can only think of the title of the movie Gone with the Wind. These carpets beautifully enhance public spaces, but not for long, as their materials are easily carried away by any breeze or the movements of bystanders. The Sand Carpets were designed by the studio Muurbloem, which specializes in developing spectacular patterns to decorate all areas. As its names suggests, the project is made from sand that is sprinkled on the floor with the help of perforated PVC tubes. These types of artistic concepts make public spaces much more entertaining and warm for people. Additionally, they bring free art closer to pedestrians without having them visit a museum. With gorgeous, but short-lasting aesthetic designs, the Muurbloem Sand Carpets give one more reason to explore and actually take advantage of public spaces. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.2/10 - Popularity: 23% | Activity: 6% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Ephemeral Design:** Creating short-lived public decor and artwork that enhances spaces and provides temporary installations for individuals to enjoy. - **Sustainable Art:** Developing public art made from environmentally friendly materials that can decompose quickly or contribute to the earth's ecosystem. - **Interactive Installations:** Designing public artwork that interacts with its environment and invites individuals to participate in creating the final product. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Public Art:** Developing and creating temporary installations in public spaces to provide art and beauty to public spaces. - **Environmental Design:** Developing designs for public spaces that incorporate sustainability and environmental awareness into artistic concepts. - **Event Planning:** Incorporating short-lived, eco-friendly installations into events, such as festivals or outdoor weddings, to provide unique experiences for attendees. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Desert-Inspired Floor Coverings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dune-rug.md) - [Season-Inspired Rug Lines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/artistic-rug-range.md) - [Drought-Awareness Rug Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dryland-rug.md) - [Dynamic Flatwoven Carpet Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/matter-colection.md) - [Oil Painting-Inspired Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/antonio-santn.md) - [Floral-Inspired Home Rug Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magical-garden.md) - [Mesmerizing Artful Patterned Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electtrico-collection.md) - [Artistic Gen Alpha Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moooi-carpets.md) - [Temporary Luxury Brand Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luxury-brand-installation.md)
