# Amusing Musical Swing Sets The Baloica Sound Exhibit Adds Some Swinging Musical Notes to Your Day By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2013-10-13 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/musical-swing-set References: [gizmodo](http://gizmodo.com/this-musical-swing-set-is-the-worlds-coolest-instrumen-1443206273) & [notcot.org](http://www.notcot.org/post/55434/) Designers Claudia Oliviera and Isabel Bournbon from studio Elas Duas installed a [musical swing set](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/king-swings) entitled ‘Baloica,’ which loosely translates into ‘rocking,’ for the listening pleasure of civilians at the Convento Das Domenicas in Guimaraes, Portugal. The swing set was rigged to play musical notes upon the swinging motion, creating a pleasant surprise for guests. The different musical combinations of the swingers – which can be pretty pleasing and lovely, especially when accompanied by the church bells - are captured in a video. Though swinging is technically a [recreational playground pastime](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/welcome-little-stranger) for young children, anyone – young or old – can get a kick out of this [motion-based sound installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sound-maestro). The science behind the installation isn’t shown, but this fun set of swings puts a new twist to a nostalgic leisurely hobby. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.0/10 - Popularity: 5% | Activity: 18% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Live Arts](https://www.trendhunter.com/livearts) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Musical Playgrounds:** Opportunity for companies to create innovative and interactive playground equipment that incorporates music and sound. - **Sensory Installations:** Opportunity for businesses to create sensory experiences that engage multiple senses like touch, sight, sound, and smell. - **Interactive Art:** Opportunity for artists and designers to create interactive public art installations that engage viewers and encourage participation. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Playground Equipment:** Companies that design and manufacture playground equipment could incorporate musical elements to create a unique and engaging play experience. - **Event Planning:** Opportunity for event planners to incorporate sensory installations like the Baloica swing set to engage attendees and create memorable experiences. - **Public Art:** Municipalities and public art organizations could commission interactive art installations that engage the community and create a sense of playfulness. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dual-Function Play Swings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/birddy.md) - [Kinetic Musical Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/musical-bench.md) - [Colorful Dynamic Acoustic Playgrounds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/otonomori.md) - [Playground-Inspired Seating Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/swing-seat.md) - [Musical-Themed Kinetic Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/daydreamer.md) - [Curvaceous Outdoor Swings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/niu-swing.md) - [Accessibility-Enhancing Public Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/isometric-studio.md) - [Fitness-Inspired Backyard Playsets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/backyard-playsets.md) - [Minimalist Outdoor Swings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/outdoor-swing.md)
