# Music-Making Motion Devices The AUUG Music Device Translates Movement into Sound By Angela Rajic | Published 2013-11-19 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/music-device References: [kickstarter](http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1892750571/the-motion-synth-turn-movement-into-music) & [auug](http://www.auug.com/) Running your fingers over the strings of a guitar, the keys of a piano or the holes of a flute is no longer the only way to make music thanks to the AUUG motion synth music device. Designed by Joshua Young as way of enabling electronic musicians to get more connected and expressive with their music and their audience, the AUUG motion synth allows any musician to play a note and then alter it with just a movement of their hand. The music device come with three parts: the physical component is a special grip that fits to any [iPhone](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-wristband) or [iPod Touch](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ppsspp-ios), while the software includes the AUUG phone app and AUUG cloud. The app converts the phone's motion sensor data into sound-altering signals and transfers them to other sound apps or external devices, including vocal harmonizers or hardware synths. The AUUG cloud allows for uploading presets created with the app and connection with online community and forum. This motion synth technology has the ability to alter the face for electronic music by slowly dissolving the indirect connection between musicians and their music. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.6/10 - Popularity: 26% | Activity: 75% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Motion Synth Technology:** The AUUG motion synth is disrupting traditional methods of music-making by allowing musicians to alter sound with hand movements. - **Connected and Expressive Music:** The AUUG motion synth device enables musicians to get more connected and expressive with their music and their audience. - **Cloud-based Music Creation:** The AUUG cloud feature allows for uploading presets and connecting with an online community, revolutionizing the way musicians collaborate and share their music. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Music Technology:** The AUUG motion synth device presents disruptive innovation opportunities for the music technology industry, with its motion-based sound alterations and cloud-based collaboration features. - **Electronics:** The integration of the AUUG motion synth grip with iPhones and iPod Touch opens up disruptive innovation opportunities in the electronics industry by combining motion sensors with music-making capabilities. - **App Development:** The AUUG phone app, which converts motion sensor data into sound-altering signals, creates opportunities for disruptive innovation in the app development industry by expanding the possibilities of music creation and manipulation. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [AR-Fueled Musical Camera Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minibeats.md) - [Hand-Sensing Musical Instruments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roli-airwave.md) - [Mobile Music Analysis Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/music-analysis-device.md) - [Tactile Interactive Music Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yamaha.md) - [Smartphone-Based Musical Instruments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/artinoise-zefiro.md) - [Affordable Music-Making Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/easyplay-1s.md) - [Music-Driven Pleasure Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/groove-thing.md) - [Interactive Music Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sound-maestro.md) - [Music Analysis Compact Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/analist.md)
