# Contemplative Fungi Illustrations Corey Corcoran Creates Psychedelic Art Carved on Mushrooms By Simal Yilmaz | Published 2013-01-08 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mushroom-carving-illustrations References: [randommization](http://randommization.com/2013/01/07/illustrations-etched-on-mushrooms/) & [coreycorcoran](http://coreycorcoran.com/) These intricately detailed and contemplative illustrations by artist Corey Corcoran are carved on [conk mushrooms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mycelium-muse). A general melody of nature and reflection seems to encompass his body of work. Corcoran’s careful carving and skillfully detailed style is admirable, especially considering the [fragile surface of fungi](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/duk-series) that he uses as his canvases. Confusion, bewilderment, contemplation and pattern recognition are predictable happenstances in close encounters with natural as well as the [psychedelic world](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/synergy-by-design). However, even though predictable, these encounters are anything but ordinary, and have in fact given ways to incredible art work over the years. The meta-use of the mushroom surface, the fine detailing of the carvings and the expressiveness of the illustrations overall all give way to a fine body of thematic artwork by Corcoran that is both scrupulous and acute. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.3/10 - Popularity: 81% | Activity: 10% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Natural-inspired Art:** Artists can explore the use of natural materials and themes to create unique and captivating works of art. - **Psychedelic Art:** Artists can embrace the vibrant and surreal qualities of psychedelic experiences to create visually striking and thought-provoking artworks. - **Intricate Carvings:** Artists can showcase their skill and attention to detail through the intricate carving of unconventional canvases, such as mushrooms. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art and Design:** Artists and designers can explore new mediums and techniques to push boundaries and create innovative artworks. - **Natural Products:** Businesses can capitalize on the growing demand for natural and eco-friendly products by incorporating natural elements into their offerings, drawing inspiration from nature-inspired art like Corey Corcoran's work. - **Psychedelic Fashion:** Fashion designers can embrace psychedelic art as a source of inspiration to create bold and unconventional designs that cater to those seeking vibrant and surrealistic fashion experiences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Mushroom-Core Audio Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mycoaudio.md) - [Burgeoning Psychedelic Art Movements](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/psychedelic-art-movement.md) - [Fungi-Inspired Multidisciplinary Art Projects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/black-void.md) - [Mushroom-Inspired Dining Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grybova-hata.md) - [Otherworldly Wooden Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1.md) - [Mushroom Leather Fruit Bowls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-fruit-bowl-by-heron-preston.md) - [Mycelium-Based Artful Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ephemeral-table.md) - [Mycellium Material Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mycelium-muse.md) - [Mushroom-Based Fruit Bowls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mycoworks-fruit-bowl.md)
