"After opening in 1967 as a succession of buildings in the shape of cells, shells or diving bells", the Museumotel complex fell into disuse and went bankrupt in 1995. Renovated in 2007, the 60s hotel was re-opened as a destination for visitors with an appreciation for [retro design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kimpton-los-monteros-hotel). After the building's renovation, its interior spaces were restored to resemble their original appearance from nearly 55 years ago. The hotel's conceptual structures are "composed of a [module shell in polyurethane foam](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pebl-grand-cabin) that has been protected by reinforced polyester." Its lodgings feature nine rooms that offer a memorable experience for their visitors. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.7/10 - Popularity: 30% | Activity: 14% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [World](https://www.trendhunter.com/world) > [Travel](https://www.trendhunter.com/travel) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Retro Futuristic Hotel Designs:** Opportunities for futuristic hotels that draw inspiration from the past. - **Restoring Disused Buildings:** Opportunities to revitalize abandoned structures into new and exciting spaces. - **Retro Interior Design:** Opportunities to reintroduce retro design elements into modern spaces. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Hospitality:** Opportunities to create unique hotel experiences with retro futuristic designs for guests. - **Real Estate:** Opportunities to redevelop disused buildings into profitable properties with creative restoration designs. - **Interior Design:** Opportunities to incorporate retro design elements in modern spaces and attract nostalgic customers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Mansion-Topped Surreal Hotels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/marison-heler.md) - [Retro Nightlife-Inspired Hotels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/htel-chteau-deau.md) - [Sci-Fi Coastal Hotel Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/epicon.md) - [Galactic-Themed Sci-Fi Museums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/star-cloud.md) - [Mobile Otherworldly Hotel Vehicles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tesla-mobile-resort-hotel.md) - [Revamped Mid-Century Beach Motels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hotel-lucine.md) - [Mountainside-Inspired Bespoke Hotels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bouchardon-hotel.md) - [Sci-Fi-Themed Metallic Potty Pods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-portal.md) - [Sculptural Concrete Hotel Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sleeping-lab.md)
