The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is Using Tech to Fill Empty Frames

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston is now making the most of augmented reality to provide enhanced museum experiences for visitors.
As part of her will, Isabella Stewart Gardner detailed that the museum she opened in 1903 was to remain unchanged—so when the museum's founder passed away in 1924 and a large art heist took place in the 90s, it was decided that the frames of the artwork stolen from the walls would remain empty and in place. Now, following the 28th anniversary of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum robbery, Cuseum is helping to return the stolen pieces of art to their rightful places via augmented reality.
When guests visit the gallery, they now have the chance to partake in a unique museum experience called Hacking The Heist, which allows the art to be visualized in its original frame through the screen of an iPad, although the physical space remains unaltered.
