A totally new [dishwasher concept](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/advanced-dishwasher) designed by Marie-Christine Lacasse and Marie Claude Savard, and unveiled at the [University of Quebec](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electrolux-laundry-robot) in Montreal Design Grad Show, could prove to be a very interesting addition to your home. Their version is essentially a horizontal "bookcase" that holds the dishes to be washed. The "washer" portion automatically travels from one end to the other, cleaning the dishes as it goes. And when it is finished it serves as the [dish storage location](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spaceefficient-drying) as well. Yes, it would need some work to be practical, but all in all a pretty creative idea! ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.8/10 - Popularity: 71% | Activity: 64% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Horizontal Dishwashers:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop a more practical and efficient horizontal dishwasher design that saves space and automates dishwashing process. - **Automated Dish Storage:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create a dish storage system that automatically organizes and stores dishes once they are cleaned, eliminating the need for manual unloading. - **Space-saving Kitchen Appliances:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design compact and vertically integrated kitchen appliances that maximize space utilization in small kitchens. ### Who This Affects Most - **Home Appliance:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Invent advanced home appliances that simplify household tasks and enhance convenience for users. - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Introduce innovative and space-saving design concepts for kitchen appliances and storage solutions to optimize small living spaces. - **Smart Kitchen Technology:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop smart kitchen appliances and automation systems that improve efficiency and provide seamless integration with other smart home devices. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Progressive Performance Dishwasher Doors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dacor.md) - [Small Space Dishwashers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-dishwasher.md) - [Ergonomic Kitchen Dishwashers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fotile-x20-max.md) - [Powerful Small-Space Dishwashers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lissome-r1.md) - [Affordable Portable Dishwashers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shabosh.md) - [Hyper-Fast Countertop Dishwashers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/capsule-solo.md) - [Spinning Dishwasher Racks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/whirlpool-spinload-rack.md) - [Steam-Powered Dishwasher Appliances](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kitchen-steam-cleaner.md) - [Stealthy Miniature Dishwashers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mycup.md)
