# Monolithic Sports Complexes This Multi-Sports Complex Will Appeal to Your Child-Like Curiosity By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-06-02 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/multisports-complex References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2014/05/31/sports-complex-by-archi5-tecnova-architecture-has-a-facade-pieced-together-like-a-construction-set/) & [tecnova-architecture](http://www.tecnova-architecture.com/en/) Archi5 and Tecnova architecture collaborated on the design for a multi-sports complex for the residents of Antony, a suburban community located in southern Paris. The center features a basalt facade and a roof garden. The basalt cladding, which is made up of a variety of different hues, was locally sourced. A representative from Archi5 explained, "What we sought to spark off was people's curiosity and a thirst for mystery; a child's fascination to know what's inside the big box. This led us to design this huge, dark monolith, which is a break from local architecture." A steel structure supports the faceted rooftop garden, which is punctured by skylights that enhance the natural light the complex receives. Inside, the space accommodates a variety of different facilities, including a martial arts dojo and a dance hall. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.3/10 - Popularity: 1% | Activity: 1% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Basalt Cladding:** The use of locally sourced basalt cladding presents an opportunity for sustainable and visually striking architecture designs. - **Faceted Rooftop Gardens:** The integration of faceted rooftop gardens with skylights creates innovative and nature-inspired spaces for sports complexes and other buildings. - **Multi-purpose Sports Complexes:** The combination of various sports facilities, such as martial arts dojos and dance halls, in a single complex offers convenience and diverse recreational opportunities for communities. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture & Construction:** Architects and construction companies can explore using basalt cladding and faceted rooftop gardens to create visually stunning and sustainable buildings. - **Sports & Recreation:** The design of multi-purpose sports complexes opens up opportunities for sports and recreation businesses to cater to diverse customer needs and interests. - **Education & Fitness:** The inclusion of martial arts dojos and dance halls in sports complexes can attract individuals and organizations in the education and fitness industry to offer classes and training programs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Domed Underground Sports Centers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alma-complex.md) - [Architectural Sports Landmarks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/xian-international-football.md) - [Large Sports Complexes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/greater-bay-area-sports-centre.md) - [Fan‑inspired Arenas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kunshan-olympic-sports-centre.md) - [Steel Pavilion Sports Clubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mocol-sports-club.md) - [Textured Concrete Panelled Gyms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/md41.md) - [Arched Garden-Topped Cultural Centers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hengqin-culture-and-art-complex.md) - [Social Sports Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ballers-sports-venue.md) - [Vibrant Sports Parks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/huachiao-vibrant-sports-park.md)
