# Squishy Light Fixtures The Mr Mellow Lamp by Sarah Bottger is Made Out of a Yellow Sponge By Meghan Young | Published 2011-10-28 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mr-mellow References: [inspire.2ia.pl](http://inspire.2ia.pl/post/11969725934/mr-mellow-sponge-lamp-by-sarah-bottger) & [sarahboettger](http://sarahboettger.com/42-0-Mr-Mellow.html) There is something strangely stylish about the Mr Mellow lamp, even though it is actually made out of a sponge and not just made to look like one. This stylishness definitely has to do with the fact that it has an [industrial aesthetic](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-drape-light) to it, especially with the tasteful, vintage cord sticking out of it. Created by Sarah Bottger for Brigitte Extra, the Mr Mellow light fixture interestingly shed a glow that is very similar to that of a [lit candle](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/banana-lamp). The yellow [sponge material](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luffa-collection) provides a warmth that would otherwise be lacking from a bared LED bulb. Although quite simple, the Mr Mellow lamp is a statement decor piece. It has a lot of character. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 31% | Activity: 20% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Squishy Light Fixtures:** Opportunity to create innovative light fixtures using unconventional materials like sponges. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Lighting:** Incorporating non-traditional materials into lighting design to create unique and visually appealing fixtures. - **Home Decor:** Introducing statement decor pieces like the Mr Mellow lamp made from unexpected materials to add character and warmth to living spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Inflatable Colorful Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/squeeze-inflatable-lamp.md) - [Hollow Candle-Like Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lampe.md) - [Translucent Bulbous Pendant Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/big-glow-light.md) - [Melt-Resembling Portable Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/melt-light.md) - [Malleable Connected Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pofu-lamp.md) - [Suspended Halo Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lamplox-minimalist-floor-lamp.md) - [Ice Cream-Resembling Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soft-serve-lamp.md) - [Organic Cloud-Like Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/khmara.md) - [Quirky Common Item Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/table-lamp-lighter.md)
