# Abstract Tessellated Architecture The Mosaic Museum of Ceramics Features a Riot of Broken Bowls By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-11-27 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mosaic-museum-of-ceramics References: [archidesignclub](http://www.archidesignclub.com/magazine/rubriques/architecture/45518-casanova-hernandez-architects-ceramic-museum-and-mosaic-park.html) & [casanova-hernandez](http://www.casanova-hernandez.com/) If the Mosaic Museum of Ceramics were a great deal smaller, it would certainly be the jewel of your china cabinet. This architectural project is a chaotic (yet harmonious!) meeting point for several contrasting styles, objects and ideas. Designed by Casanova + Hernandez Architects for the city of Jinzhou, this project certainly serves to enliven an urban park. The multifaceted structure of the [gallery and exhibition space](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aydc-public-art-centre) is divided into irregular shapes that have been filled in with brightly colored bits of [broken porcelain](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-nesting-room). Uniting East and West, the tiles form abstract patterns that mimic the vibrant paving of the surrounding landscape and the planting of [vivid flower beds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/structural-botany). The Mosaic Museum of Ceramics affords an abstract and exciting optical challenge that breaks up the rhythm and the uniformity that you often find in building design. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.4/10 - Popularity: 45% | Activity: 48% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Abstract Architecture:** Abstract Tessellated Architecture showcases the use of irregular shapes and abstract patterns to create visually stimulating structures. - **Multifaceted Design:** The Mosaic Museum of Ceramics demonstrates how incorporating multiple elements and contrasting styles in design can create a harmonious and dynamic space. - **Creative Use of Materials:** By using brightly colored bits of broken porcelain, this project illustrates the potential of reimagining materials to create visually striking and unique architectural features. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture:** Architects and designers can explore innovative approaches to building design by embracing abstract and unconventional shapes, patterns, and materials. - **Art and Cultural Institutions:** Art and cultural institutions can consider incorporating abstract and visually engaging architectural designs to create memorable and immersive visitor experiences. - **Urban Planning and Landscaping:** Urban planners and landscape designers can draw inspiration from the Mosaic Museum of Ceramics' integration of abstract patterns with the surrounding landscape, creating visually cohesive and stimulating urban environments. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Chaos-Insppired Ceramic Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ceramic-installation1.md) - [Architectural Pottery Museums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bat-trang.md) - [Custom Restaurant Mosaic Embellishments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mosaic-embellishment.md) - [Public Pavilion Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tess-pavilion.md) - [Tea-Honoring Angular Libraries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atelier-xi-2.md) - [Color-Shifting Art Museums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-quartet-songzhuang-z-museum.md) - [Paper-Made Mosaic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/real-life-architecture-exhibition.md) - [Blooming Clustered Art Forms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/structural-botany.md) - [Ceramic Modern Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hillsborough-residence.md)
