# Morbid Lighting Ji-youn Kim's Hangman Light is Depressing By Alexandru Mares | Published 2009-08-27 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/morbid-lighting-ji-youn-kims-hangman-light-is-depressing References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2009/08/27/another-hanging/) & [jiyounkim](http://www.jiyounkim.com/) I like the casual black humor, but this is ridiculous: Ji-youn Kim's Hangman Light looks like a voodoo doll with a light bulb head that is suspended from the ceiling and comes in three colors: white, light brown and black. I don’t know any sane man that would put Ji-youn Kim's Hangman Light in his home, but i guess it has a certain appeal to your everyday serial killer. Anyway, if you want to see this design in stores, just hang in there and you might get lucky. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.7/10 - Popularity: 14% | Activity: 30% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Morbid Home Decor:** Opportunity for manufacturers to create unconventional home decor pieces that appeal to those with a taste for dark humor. - **Controversial Lighting:** Opportunity to push the boundaries of traditional lighting design and create provocative pieces that generate buzz and interest. - **Dark Aesthetics:** Opportunity for designers to explore the appeal of dark and unsettling aesthetics in various design fields. ### Who This Affects Most - **Interior Design:** Opportunity for interior designers to incorporate edgy and unconventional decor pieces into their projects to add a unique touch. - **Lighting Design:** Opportunity for lighting designers to experiment with unconventional designs and create lighting fixtures that spark conversation and intrigue. - **Art and Sculpture:** Opportunity for artists and sculptors to explore dark and macabre themes to create thought-provoking pieces that challenge traditional art forms. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Monkey Knot-Integrated Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/small-knot-pendant-lamp.md) - [Quirky Common Item Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/table-lamp-lighter.md) - [Umbrella-Resembling Playful Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rain-man-lamp.md) - [Suspended Origami-Like Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sora-light.md) - [Playful Minimal Suspended Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nomnom-light.md) - [Industrial Contemporary Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shop-light.md) - [Suspended Halo Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lamplox-minimalist-floor-lamp.md) - [Human Physio-Themed Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dif-lamp.md) - [Paper-Made Origami Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hanging-origami-lamp.md)
