# Floating Room Installations The 'Monte-Meubles' Features a Living Room Suspended in Mid-Air By Alexander Lam | Published 2013-06-28 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monte-meubles References: [psfk](http://www.psfk.com/2013/06/hanging-living-room-sculpture.html) & [leandroerlich.ar](http://www.leandroerlich.com.ar/works.php?id=48) Suspended in mid-air, a sculpture called 'Monte-Meubles' makes it look as if a God decided to detach a room and lift it into the air. Created by artist Leandro Erlich, the [surreal installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1) is composed of a life-size room held up high by a ladder. The room itself looks like someone literally ripped it out of a building. Broken cement and exposed pipes line the edges of the relocated room. Though it's attached to a ladder, the room still looks like it's floating on its own accord. Erlich made the sculpture for the Le Voyage a Nantes festival in Nantes, France. The festival takes over the city biannually with a series of [outdoor works](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fourth-wall). The Monte-Meubles was placed as the centerpiece in a large square where it dominated the space. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.4/10 - Popularity: 82% | Activity: 71% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Suspended Installations:** Exploring the trend of suspended room installations as a surreal and captivating art form. - **Dislocated Architecture:** Examining the disruptive potential of relocating architectural elements to create visually striking sculptures. - **Interactive Art:** Exploring the use of interactive installations to engage and captivate audiences in unique ways. ### Where This Applies - **Art and Sculpture:** Opportunities for artists and sculptors to push boundaries and create immersive and experiential works. - **Architecture and Design:** Disruptive approaches to architecture and design that challenge traditional notions of structure and space. - **Event and Festival Planning:** Incorporating innovative installations like the Monte-Meubles to create memorable experiences and attract visitors. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Monumental Air Installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iwagumi-air-scape.md) - [Dynamic Moving-Illusion Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moving-furniture.md) - [Suspended Lighting Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/suspended-lighting-installation.md) - [Warped Georgian Townhouse Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-week-at-the-knees.md) - [Gas Rig Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/striking-art-installation.md) - [Social Experiment Virtual Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/uncanny-spaces.md) - [Hanging Portal-Like Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/duo-installation.md) - [Sizable Chair Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chair-installation.md) - [Mountaintop Cantilevered Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/levitae-house.md)
