# Shapely Modern Housing Monk's Shadow Residence is Incredibly Dynamic By Vittoria Natarelli | Published 2010-09-02 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monks-shadow-residence References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2010/08/31/monks-shadow-residence-by-kendle-design-collaborative/) & [kendledesign](http://www.kendledesign.com/) Monk’s Shadow Residence by [Kendle Design Collaborative](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/desert-fairway-residence) is a dynamic piece of architecture that sits beautifully on the side of a hill. The narrow lot it's placed in caused some construction complications that eventually led to a nontraditional home design. This home is broken up into three zones of parents, kids, and guests. I would love to be a guest of the Monk’s Shadow Residence. The [floor-to-ceiling windows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monterey-home) within the home promise an incredible view to wake up too, guaranteeing great mornings. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.0/10 - Popularity: 61% | Activity: 21% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Dynamic Architecture:** Exploring nontraditional designs that adapt to challenging environments and create unique living experiences. - **Floor-to-ceiling Windows:** Incorporating expansive windows to offer breathtaking views and enhance the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. - **Zone-based Living:** Designing homes with distinct areas for different purposes, providing personalized spaces for parents, kids, and guests. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Utilizing innovative designs and materials to create dynamic and visually stunning homes. - **Construction:** Handling the challenges of building on narrow or difficult lots, and embracing nontraditional home designs. - **Interior Design:** Integrating floor-to-ceiling windows as a focal point and incorporating them into the overall aesthetic of a space. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Temple-Inspired Idyllic Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/k-residence-1.md) - [Sculpted Desert Dwellings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/desert-fairway-residence.md) - [Canyon-Based Cedar Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wabi-sabi-residence.md) - [Black-Metal Angled Holiday Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shadow-box-house.md) - [Glass-Lined Corridor Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tranquil-abiding.md) - [Compact Corner Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modus-architect.md) - [Contemporary Nature-Inspired Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nebo-house.md) - [Nature-Inspired Minimal Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zen-house-1.md) - [Contemporary Cantilevered Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/westview-residence.md)
