Through his observations of monkeys, Mollison was struck by how similar they appear to humans, particularly in their facial features. To portray this fact, he traveled to Cameroon, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo and Indonesia and took [head-shots of different species](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/xplra-10) of primates. From such a tight shot, viewers can more easily see a resemblance to humanity, especially when they gaze into the eyes and note the expressive lines that differ on each face. The James Mollison [monkey face photography series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/still-life-1) makes people feel a connection with the monkeys and, perhaps, have a deeper understanding of them. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.9/10 - Popularity: 87% | Activity: 83% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Closeup Primate Photography:** The trend of closeup primate photography allows for a deeper connection and understanding of primates by highlighting their facial features. - **Enhanced Human-animal Connection:** The trend of enhancing the human-animal connection through primate photography provides an opportunity for people to feel more connected to and understand the similarities between humans and primates. - **Expressive Facial Features:** The trend of capturing expressive facial features in primate photography creates an opportunity to explore the unique emotions and characteristics of these animals. ### Who This Affects Most - **Photography:** The photography industry could leverage closeup primate photography to create unique and captivating images that resonate with viewers and evoke a sense of empathy and connection. - **Conservation:** The conservation industry can use closeup primate photography to raise awareness about the importance of protecting these animals by showcasing their human-like qualities and fostering a sense of empathy. - **Advertising & Marketing:** The advertising and marketing industry can incorporate primate photography to create impactful campaigns that appeal to consumers' emotions and highlight the importance of preserving wildlife and biodiversity. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Playful Monkey-Inspired Coat Stands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monkey-coat-stand.md) - [Animal-Perspective Video Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/imaging-system-1.md) - [Collectible Tea Mascot Keychains](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pg-tips-monkey-collectible.md) - [AI Portrait Enhancers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mimicphoto.md) - [Pet-Taken Camera Initiatives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/heartography.md) - [AI-Generated Poetic Photo Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emilio-alarcn.md) - [Multi-Lens Capture Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moon-walker-multi-cam.md) - [Emotive Smartphone Camera Covers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/camera-covers.md) - [AI-Enhanced Pet Adoption Photos](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/personality-pics.md)
