# Bizarre Birthday Bouquets Blogger Documents Mysterious Monkey Ball Explosion By TrendHead | Published 2008-12-22 | Pop Culture Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monkey-boy-diaries-tropical-flower-watching References: [notcot](http://www.notcot.com/archives/2008/12/birthday_monkey.php#update) Nature is beautiful in all of its forms, but I couldn’t stop laughing when I found this lovely picture diary about a [nice bouquet of roses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/preserved-roses), orchids, moss, and monkey balls, a flower that spontaneously bursts open and is poisonous if ingested. The bunch was apparently sent via a florist who not only had misspelled the name of the sender but also placed these big hairy monkey balls in the mix. What a nice but rather strange surprise. These freaky-looking flowers are colloquially called Monkey Balls but are officially known as either Gomphocarpus physocarpus, the swan plant or the balloon cottonbush. This florist gets a ten out of ten for the [tropical effort](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fatso-drunkn-monkey) and surprise factor put forth in this [bizarre bouquet](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-bouqs-company). Let’s hope the florist gets the birthday greeting card right next time, however. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.9/10 - Popularity: 29% | Activity: 19% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) > [Internet](https://www.trendhunter.com/internet) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Unconventional Floral Arrangements:** Exploring the use of unusual flowers and plant varieties in floral design, creating unique and eye-catching bouquets. - **Personalized Gift Experiences:** Adding unexpected elements to gifts, like unusual flowers, to create a memorable and surprising experience for recipients. - **Nature-inspired Design:** Incorporating natural elements, such as unconventional flowers, into design aesthetics to create a visually stunning and organic look. ### Where This Applies - **Floristry:** Opportunities for florists to differentiate themselves by offering custom and unconventional floral arrangements. - **Gifts and Occasions:** Businesses can enhance their offerings by providing personalized and unique gift experiences through the use of unusual flowers. - **Interior Design:** Designers can incorporate nature-inspired elements, like unconventional flowers, into spaces to create visually interesting and memorable environments. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Halloween-Themed Flower Bouquets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bouqs-spooky-collection.md) - [Plush Plant-Shaped Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amuseable-bonsai-tree.md) - [Dark Aesthetic Floral Bouquets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kill-them-with-kindness.md) - [Alone Time-Inspired Flower Arrangements](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alone-time-arrangement.md) - [Tarot-Inspired Floral Bouquets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flowerlore-collection.md) - [Romantic Delivery Service Bouquets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/deliveroo-new-arrangements-collection.md) - [Herbaceous Edible Bouquets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woolworths-fresh-bouquet.md) - [Playful Monkey-Inspired Coat Stands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monkey-coat-stand.md) - [Floral Meat-Made Gifts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beef-jerky-flower-bouquet.md)
