# Glass Tea House Mondrian by Hiroshi Sugimoto is Transparently Serene By Meghan Young | Published 2014-06-30 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mondrian-by-hiroshi-sugimoto References: [fubiz.net](http://www.fubiz.net/en/2014/06/29/glass-tea-house/) & [sugimotohiroshi](http://www.sugimotohiroshi.com/portfolio.html) Mondrian by Hiroshi Sugimoto, an artist hailing from Japan, is a stunning place that blends the outdoors with the indoors in such a way that it almost seems as though there is no barrier whatsoever. As its apt name gives away, it is made out of glass. Save for a couple small wooden details, that is the predominantly material used, which gives it the illusion that it is see-through all together. Created for the 14th Biennale di Venezia – International Architecture, which is taking place from the beginning of June to the end of November of this year, Mondrian by Hiroshi Sugimoto is a tribute to the Dutch painter, Piet Mondrian. It is located at Le Stanze del Vetro in the middle of a shallow pool. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.6/10 - Popularity: 71% | Activity: 59% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Transparent Architecture:** Architecture that blurs the line between indoors and outdoors, using glass as the main material to create a see-through effect provides an opportunity for architects to explore new design possibilities. - **Artistic Installations:** Artistic installations that pay tribute to celebrated artists provide an opportunity for contemporary creatives to showcase their work while celebrating the art of the past. - **Sustainable Design:** Designing structures that incorporate sustainable materials and techniques to achieve transparency provides an opportunity for architects to create environmentally-conscious designs. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture:** Architecture firms specializing in innovative designs can explore the possibilities of transparent and sustainable designs for residential, commercial and public structures. - **Art:** Art galleries and museums can showcase artistic installations that explore the relationship between art and architecture, as well as paying tribute to past masters such as Piet Mondrian. - **Sustainability:** Environmental organizations can encourage architects and designers to incorporate sustainable materials and technologies into their work to minimize the environmental impact of new construction. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Glass Philosophical Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glass-ridge.md) - [Lantern-Like Tea House Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tea-house-pavilion-1.md) - [Glass-Walled Shanghai Cafes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mei-yuan-cafe.md) - [Woodland Arts Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/waterhouseoyama.md) - [Blurry Abstract Photography Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optical-allusion.md) - [Pointy Paper Lantern Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-lantern-pavilion.md) - [Textured Glass Landmarks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/helsinki-design-and-architecture-museum.md) - [Serene Waterfront Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lake-house-life-experience-pavilion.md) - [Warped Acrylic Bar Interiors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/awt-bar.md)
