A basketball hoop without a net is like a bird without wings: useless. Fortunately, artist Maria Molteni is attempting to solve this problem with MOLTENi NET WORKS, an art project that features participants hand-crocheting nets for empty [basketball hoops](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/huupe-mini). MOLTENi NET WORKS is a grassroots project currently serving the area immediately around Molteni's apartment. MOLTENi NET WORKS has started a [Kickstarter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dribbletek) page asking for money to assist with the project -- $2,000, to be exact. Let's get this done; I can't play another pickup game in which my depth perception will be distorted. I hate playing with an empty basketball net and would definitely give a [crocheted basketball net](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knit-series) a chance. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.3/10 - Popularity: 25% | Activity: 35% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Sports](https://www.trendhunter.com/sports) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Hand-crocheted Basketball Nets:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the market for unique, artistic replacement nets that add aesthetic value to basketball hoops. - **Grassroots Art Projects:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create platforms for local artists to showcase their talents and engage the community in creative initiatives. - **Crowdfunding for Community Initiatives:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Tap into crowdfunding platforms to raise funds for community-based projects and bring innovative ideas to life. ### Where This Applies - **Sports Equipment:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop and market customizable net solutions that cater to different sports and consumer preferences. - **Art and Craft:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Combine traditional crafts with modern art forms to create unique and functional pieces that appeal to a broader audience. - **Crowdfunding Platforms:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Build a specialized crowdfunding platform that focuses on supporting community-driven art and creative initiatives. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Artist-Inspired Dynamic Basketballs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/round21.md) - [Empowering Artful Basketball Courts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/na-chainkua-reindorf.md) - [Eye-Catching Basketball Parks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/basketball-park.md) - [Fluid Basketball-Net Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/swimming-pools-and-bubblegum.md) - [Basketball Social Networks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sports-social-network.md) - [Artfully Crafted Basketball Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/home-court-1.md) - [Brand-Backed Basketball Court Restorations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reebok-canada.md) - [Museum-Run Basketball Courts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/museumrun-basketball-court.md) - [Flood-Smart Basketball Courts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grain-collective.md)
