The name of the project is derived from the appearance of the apartments. That is, each unit looks like a table top as it is "based around a uniform set of four supporting posts." With this housing development, Kwong Von Glinow hopes to provide a solution for [urban loneliness](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/la-comunidad-habitacional). Many modular building systems are currently being proposed in cities to deal with population density and poverty. The Chicago-based firm's Table Top Apartments are specifically designed for the New York environment as they are able "to fit on the city's smallest lot sizes." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.4/10 - Popularity: 31% | Activity: 33% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Modular Building Systems for Compact Urban Housing:** This trend provides an opportunity for architects and engineers to design modular units that are compact, functional and provide solutions for urban loneliness. - **Individualization in Modular Building Systems:** This trend provides an opportunity for customization of modular units, which suits the individual needs of urban dwellers. - **Sustainable and Eco-friendly Modular Building Systems:** This trend provides an opportunity for architects and engineers to design modular buildings that are environmentally friendly, energy-efficient, and sustainable. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture:** Architects can leverage modular building systems to create innovative solutions for urban housing and tackle the issue of loneliness in cities. - **Engineering:** Engineers can leverage modular building systems to create efficient and compact urban housing solutions that reduce the use of space and energy. - **Construction:** The construction industry can leverage modular building systems to create affordable and functional housing solutions for urban populations and tackle the issue of poverty. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Blocked Modular Furniture Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vank-cube.md) - [Metal Tower Residential Expansions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mini-tower-one-expansion.md) - [Compact Living Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ambra.md) - [Reinvented Compact Living](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/affordable-housing-prototype.md) - [Modular Wall-Building Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blokaloks.md) - [Reconfigurable Modular Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gioco.md) - [Sleek Modular German Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-anton-ii.md) - [Economical Modular Wooden Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cake-house.md) - [Accelerated Modular Housing Construction](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dabid-baker-architects.md)
