# Modernized Camping Shelters Olson Kundig Architects Created Comfy and Secure Bunkers for Camping By Kalin Ned | Published 2018-01-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modernized-camping-shelters References: [fubiz.net](http://www.fubiz.net/2018/01/23/the-rolling-huts-of-methow-valley-washington/) & [olsonkundig](http://www.olsonkundig.com/projects/rolling-huts/) In 2014, Olson Kundig Architects designed versatile and compact elevated cabins that could withstand flooding, and in 2018, the same design has been applied to the six Rolling Huts—a set of modernized camping shelters in Methow Valley, Washington. There is a rising behavioral pattern among city dwellers, who actively seek out a digital detox and a semi-solitary escape from the urban environment. Glamping satisfies those requirements and is specifically accessible for those who aren't too keen on traditional camping, setting up tents and cooking on open fire. The six Rolling Huts are fully compatible with this concept, as well as mobile, secluded and with their very own 19th century-inspired fire place. The geometric architecture is seamlessly integrated within Methow Valley. With their compact all-wood interior, these modernized camping shelters seem like the perfect compromise between contemporary design and wilderness. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.9/10 - Popularity: 100% | Activity: 98% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Glamping Retreats:** Modernized camping shelters offer a luxurious glamping experience, catering to urban dwellers seeking a digital detox and a semi-solitary escape from the city. - **Compact and Versatile Designs:** The use of versatile and compact elevated cabins in camping shelters allows for easy mobility and adaptability in various environments. - **Seamless Integration with Nature:** The geometric architecture of modernized camping shelters seamlessly integrates with natural surroundings, providing a unique and immersive wilderness experience. ### Who This Affects Most - **Hospitality and Travel:** The hospitality industry can capitalize on the growing demand for glamping retreats by offering modernized camping shelters as unique accommodations for travelers. - **Architectural Design:** Architects and designers have the opportunity to explore and innovate in creating compact and versatile designs for camping shelters that are both functional and visually appealing. - **Outdoor Recreation:** The outdoor recreation industry can leverage modernized camping shelters to provide customers with a more comfortable and secure camping experience, attracting a broader range of outdoor enthusiasts. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Rustic Contemporary Bunkhouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/guemes-island-bunkhouse.md) - [Glamorous Camping Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lulu-glamping.md) - [Experimental Shelter Tents](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grayhus.md) - [Angular Multi-Level Tents](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nokken-softshell-tent.md) - [Intimate High-Altitude Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/altihut.md) - [Architectural Tranquil Cabin Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bolder-londges.md) - [Transparent Birchwood Nature Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/immerso-glamping-cabin.md) - [Captivating Modern Prefab Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/skali-backcountry-cubiod.md) - [Architectural Camping Trailers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/skyview-camper.md)
