# Modern Suburban Homes This Standard Home Was Upgraded With More Modern Features By Mishal Omar | Published 2016-06-29 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-suburban References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2016/06/27/a-glass-enclosed-extension-created-a-dining-room-with-views-for-this-home/) & [mulroy.info](http://www.mulroy.info/) At first glance, this modern suburban home does not look too different than the standard suburban homes that can be seen in England and North America. After a family decided they needed more space in their home, they employed Mulroy Architects to design and create an [extension for it](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bureau-de-change-2). The result is an added area to the home that functions as a dining room with walls that are almost entirely made of glass -- offering views of the deck and backyard from the interior of the home while making this home appear up-to-date and modern from the exterior. By brightening up this space with a [glass-encased home extension](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rathdown), the designers managed to create a modern suburban home that would otherwise look just like the rest. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 80% | Activity: 62% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Glass Extensions:** There is a disruptive innovation opportunity for companies that offer glass encased home extensions for modernizing suburban homes. - **Modernization of Existing Homes:** The increasingly popular trend of modernizing existing homes is an opportunity for businesses that offer renovation and home improvement services. - **Integration of Interior and Exterior Spaces:** Creating design plans that integrate interior and exterior spaces is a disruptive innovation opportunity for companies that offer renovation and architectural services. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architectural Services:** Architectural firms can offer modern design solutions for homeowners looking to renovate and modernize their existing homes. - **Home Renovation Services:** Companies that offer home renovation services can capitalize on homeowners' desire to upgrade their homes with modern features. - **Glass Manufacturing and Installation:** Glass manufacturers and installers can offer specialized home extension products and services to cater to the growing demand for modernization of suburban homes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Mid-Century Home Modern Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seventies-house.md) - [Suburban Home Garden Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/palm-house.md) - [Minimalist London Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/158-purley-downs-road.md) - [Blocky Extended Transformed Bunaglows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/osullivan-skoufoglou-architects.md) - [Timber-Clad Home Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thornbury-house.md) - [Semi-Detached Home Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/delve-architect.md) - [Victorian Home Modular Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/meadow-road.md) - [Concrete Modern Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/t-house-extension.md) - [Tranquil Subdued House Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/heliotrope-architects.md)
